The upcoming sixth film in the cult 25-year-old horror franchise Final Destination (official title — Final Destination Bloodlines) takes gore to a new level and breaks one of the strangest world records by setting a 71-year-old stuntwoman on fire. It’s a scene seen in one of the movie’s trailers, which shows a 120-meter Skyview Tower with a 360-degree view (the tower is fictional, but somewhat reminiscent of the CN Tower in Toronto or the Space Needle in Seattle) suddenly catching fire and starting to disintegrate. At this time, people attending a party on the top floor of the building begin to fall through the glass floor, some of them burning to death — like stuntwoman Yvette Ferguson, who came out of retirement at the age of 71 just to play this role.
“We set a lot of different people on fire, and we broke a world record with Yvette,” said Final Destination Bloodlines director Zach Lipovsky in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “He was the oldest person ever to be set on fire on camera.” Despite the claims of the creative team of Final Destination about the record for “arson of the oldest person,” representatives of the Guinness World Records have not yet confirmed this achievement — and the application is still pending.
“I was next to her. Everyone started clapping. She was so excited,” recalls 25-year-old actress Breck Bessinger, who took on one of the lead roles in Final Destination 6 and was present during the filming of the scene with Yvette. Yvette herself shared a picture of the arson on Instagram, where, by the way, you can see a comment from her daughter — Becky Ferguson. The girl followed in her mother’s footsteps, and recently appeared as a stuntwoman for Ellie and Abby in the series The Last of Us (first stalker she also played in the series).
According to the official synopsis, Final Destination Bloodlines will focus on the story of a college student named Stephanie, who is constantly tormented by the same nightmare; eventually, she sets out to find the only person who can save her family and break the cycle of horrific events. Adam Stein directed the film alongside Lipovsky, and the main roles, in addition to Bessinger, were played by Caitlin Santa Juana, Theo Briones, Richard Harmon, Aries Patrick Joyner, Ria Kilstedt, Anna Lore, Breck Bessinger, Tony Todd and others.
Early reactions have previously defined the movie as decent and “absolutely crazy” continuation of the franchise. The new Final Destination will debut in Ukraine on May 15, 2025.
Final Destination Bloodlines broke a world record for the oldest person ever set on fire on camera, with stuntwoman Yvette Ferguson. Ferguson, 71, was brought out of retirement to play Mrs. Fuller, a woman who is burned alive in the film's opening sequence.
“She was so pumped,” costar Brec Bassinger told Entertainment Weekly of being on set when Yvette was set on fire. Final Destination Bloodlines is setting a pretty blazing record. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Monday, May 5, director Zach Lipovsky said that Yvette Ferguson, a 71-year-old former actress and stuntwoman, was brought out of retirement for the movie's opening scene, breaking the record for "the oldest person ever on fire, on camera."
“We lit so many different people on fire, including breaking the world record for oldest person on fire with Yvette Ferguson, who did that full body burn in the silver dress,” said Lipovsky. Yvette plays Mrs. Fuller, a woman whom Iris (played by Brec Bassinger) sees burned to death inside the fictional Skyview Tower during one of the franchise's famous premonitions.
Bassinger, 25, excitedly told the outlet that she was "on set when they lit [Yvette] on fire!" “I was within her vicinity. God, it was beautiful. Everyone started clapping,” recalled the Stargirl actress. “She was so pumped.” Yvette shared a fiery photo from the filming to her Instagram, which she captioned in part, "I had the opportunity to do a fire burn for @burnettsimonstunts @fire4hirestunts 🔥 Thank you for a great opportunity and check it out in theatres coming soon!"
Among the comments on Yvette's post was an enthusiastic one from Final Destination Bloodlines co-director Adam Stein, who wrote, "World record breaker!!! 🔥" The PEOPLE App is now available in the Apple App Store! Download it now for the most binge-worthy celeb content, exclusive video clips, astrology updates and more! “So proud of you Mom! ❤️🔥,” read another from Yvette's daughter Becky Ferguson, who has followed in her mom's footsteps as a stunt performer, most recently for Bella Ramsey and Kaitlyn Dever on The Last of Us. (She also appeared as "the first stalker" in the show's season 2 premiere.)
Of the sequence in general, Stein told Entertainment Weekly that "fear of heights seemed like a really fun thing to play with and start as a foundation," joking that they're "always looking for things that can happen in your everyday life that we can ruin." “We were very excited to bring that to IMAX because when you see it on a 60-foot screen, you really feel the vertigo of being 400 feet in the air,” he added of the Skyview Tower set. Final Destination Bloodlines is in theaters May 16.
