The deadline for submitting the annual PIT for 2024 is fast approaching, with just two days remaining for taxpayers to fulfill their obligations. As the final date of April 30, 2025, looms, the Tax Office is urging individuals to take action now to ensure their tax returns are filed correctly and on time.
Elżbieta Krzaczkowska from the Tax Office in Włocławek emphasizes the importance of this deadline, stating that it applies to all taxpayers, including those operating businesses taxed under general principles or flat-rate taxation, as well as individuals without businesses. "The final deadline for settling your tax is April 30, 2025," she noted.
Taxpayers have the option to verify, modify, or accept tax returns prepared by the National Tax Administration through the Twój e-PIT service until this deadline. After April 30, the PIT-37 and PIT-38 forms will be automatically approved, even if the taxpayer takes no action. However, it’s crucial to note that the PIT-28, PIT-36, and PIT-36L forms will not be automatically approved, requiring taxpayers to check, complete, and submit them with confirmation of receipt (UPO).
For the first time, the Twój e-PIT service is accessible via the e-Tax Office mobile application, allowing users to file their taxes conveniently from their smartphones. Access is possible through trusted profiles, e-ID, electronic banking, mCitizen, or by entering tax data (PESEL, income from 2023 and 2024, overpayment/tax from 2023). Taxpayers can supplement their returns with eligible deductions such as rehabilitation, internet, thermomodernization, donations, or contributions to IKZE.
Additionally, individuals can designate a public benefit organization to which they wish to donate 1.5% of their tax. The Twój e-PIT service provides taxpayers with their micro-account number, enabling them to pay their taxes online. If a declaration is automatically approved, the Tax Office will send information regarding the amount due within a month.
According to recent data, by April 28, 2025, a total of 69,637 tax returns had been submitted to the office, with an impressive 93.04% submitted electronically. The highest percentages were reported for PIT-36L at 99.48% and PIT-36 at 95.83%.
Taxpayers are encouraged to handle their tax matters electronically, as Mariusz Mańkowski, head of the Tax Office in Lipno, points out, "Most taxpayers settle electronically. We also encourage handling other matters in the same way. The e-Tax Office is always open and is a significant time-saver." Logging onto podatki.gov.pl/e-urzad-skarbowy allows individuals to manage most tax-related issues from home.
The Twój e-PIT service has already processed over 6.7 million declarations, making it a preferred method for many taxpayers. However, for those who prefer traditional methods, paper forms can still be submitted in person or via post, with the postmark date being the determining factor for timely filing.
As the deadline approaches, taxpayers must remember that if they do not submit their returns by April 30, they will be automatically settled by the system. This will prevent them from donating 1.5% to a public benefit organization or utilizing available deductions if they didn't take advantage of these options in the previous year.
For those who miss the deadline, the system will generate a tax return based on the data from PIT-11 forms. The Tax Office in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski will remain open until 15:30 on April 30, 2025, to assist taxpayers in their last-minute filings.
After the April 30 deadline, automatic acceptance of the PIT-37 and PIT-38 declarations will commence on May 1, 2025, and is scheduled to last until May 7, 2025. During this period, the service will not be available, but once the automatic acceptance concludes, taxpayers will be able to view their returns and download the Official Confirmation of Receipt (UPO). They will also have the option to submit corrections to their returns, whether automatically accepted or submitted independently.
Taxpayers who find themselves with a tax liability after the automatic acceptance will be notified by the Tax Office within a month following the payment deadline. In such cases, payment must be made within seven days of receiving the notification. Conversely, if there is an overpayment, refunds will be processed to the bank account indicated in previous returns.
Support is available for taxpayers who have questions about filing their taxes. The KAS helpline can be reached at (+48) 22 330 03 30, offering extended hours from April 28 to 30, 2025, from 8:00 to 18:00 to assist with PIT filing inquiries. Detailed information regarding PIT settlements can also be found on the podatki.gov.pl website.
Furthermore, taxpayers can electronically reserve appointments at their chosen tax office for specific dates and times through wizyta.podatki.gov.pl. They can also schedule appointments via the KAS helpline, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance for their tax filing needs.
