With Christmas just around the corner, the spirit of giving is lighting up communities across the UK. Various charity events are scheduled to ramp up the holiday cheer and raise funds for worthy causes, inviting everyone to partake. From festive shopping nights to glamorous race days, these events not only support charities but also bring local communities together.
One exciting event on the horizon is the 'Day at the Races' charity fundraiser organized by Clan Cancer Support. Set to take place on March 1, 2025, at The Palace Hotel in Peterhead, this event is anticipated to blend the thrill of horse racing with festive cheer. Participants can enjoy a drinks reception, a two-course meal, and entertainment from DJ Jasper. There will be opportunities to bet on horse races shown throughout the event, all for a good cause. Guests are encouraged to dress up, with prizes for the best outfits waiting to be claimed. Tickets are reasonably priced at £45 per person, with VIP options available for those seeking a more lavish experience.
Lisa Barnard, head of income generation at Clan Cancer, expressed excitement about the event, calling it “a fantastic way to get involved and enjoy some fun, all the whilst supporting those affected by cancer.” It’s this local support, particularly from the Peterhead community, which makes such events possible and successful.
On the shopping side of things, Dobbies garden centers have planned a grand charity Christmas shopping night on November 21, 2024, from 5 PM to 9 PM at their Tewkesbury and Cirencester locations. This festive evening promises to be packed with holiday spirit, featuring spectacular Christmas displays, live music, as well as festive treats. The event's highlight, of course, is to support their national charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust, which has benefited from over £1.39 million raised through Dobbies’ various initiatives over the years.
Each guest will receive a complimentary glass of champagne and can enjoy delicious culinary offerings from the restaurant, including special holiday options. Community participation is also encouraged, as local groups can decorate faux Christmas trees for display. Those selected to participate will have the opportunity to showcase their talents with performances as part of the night’s festivities. Tickets for the Dobbies Christmas shopping night are just £1, and all proceeds will go directly to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Ayesha Nickson, Dobbies' events program manager, mentioned, “It’s great to see so many community members coming together for such meaningful causes, and events like these allow us to get some early Christmas shopping done!” Ambitious and heartwarming, the night aims not only to help the cause but also to create joyful memories for attendees.
Meanwhile, local charities are reaping the benefits of festive spirit as well. The Army Benevolent Fund, for example, has significantly impacted the lives of veterans, with last year’s donations aiding care homes established for retired armed forces personnel. Among those who have received support is 101-year-old Ron Parker, who shared insights about his experiences during the war. His story highlights the importance of these funds and the lives they touch, paving the way for more conversations and acknowledgments of service and sacrifice.
The community is urged to engage and participate enthusiastically this holiday season. With events springing up across the nation, there’s no shortage of opportunities for people to support their favorite causes and create memorable holiday experiences. Whether through whimsical shopping nights, horse racing galas, or simple donations, every act of kindness counts, particularly during this cherished time of year. Come and be part of something wonderful this Christmas; it’s the perfect time to spread joy and warmth to those who need it most!
