Fedez's Sanremo 2025 Performance Under Scrutiny Amid Controversy

The rapper faces intense questioning over his involvement with organized crime during the iconic Italian festival.

The controversy surrounding rapper Fedez has taken center stage at Sanremo 2025, as questions arise about his performance amid serious allegations of his involvement with organized crime. During the press conference for the festival, artistic director Carlo Conti faced inquiries about Fedez's participation, following the emergence of intercepted conversations linking him to Luca Lucci, the head of Milan ultras.

Fedez, whose real name is Federico Leonardo Lucia, has been named as part of an investigation related to the assault of personal trainer Cristiano Iovino. This incident occurred outside The Club, a Milan nightclub, on the night of April 21. Iovino was physically attacked, and it has been reported he never filed charges against Fedez, which has led to questions about the integrity of the festival's artist lineup.

When pressed about Fedez's eligibility to compete, Conti asserted, "I do the artistic director's job, I am not a judge. I deal with songs." This statement was reinforced by the principle of presumption of innocence. He emphasized, "If one is being investigated, like Emis Killa who decided to withdraw very intelligently for his peace of mind, it’s personal choices. Fedez can decide what he thinks is best for him." While Killa opted to step back from the contest, Fedez's commitment to perform remains uncertain.

Subsequent revelations from intercepted communications outline interactions between Fedez and Lucci. The messages suggest Lucci acted as some form of mediator during and after the incidents surrounding the assault, attempting to defuse the situation. During one exchange, Lucci claimed to Fedez, "You behave, as I had to handle things today." Fedez responded appreciatively, indicating with, "I’ll come visit you soon and bring you a gift."

These discussions have revealed alarming undercurrents involving the rapper, including aspects of alleged organized crime and impropriety. Lucci, currently under house arrest for narcotrafficking, appears to have played a role in discouraging Iovino from pursuing legal action against Fedez. They both discussed their situation, with Lucci stating, "We have only moral obligations between you and me, and that's it."

Adding to the intrigue, Emis Killa forged ties with Lucci, even gifting him a diamond-encrusted ring, reportedly as a symbol of solidarity. Lucci mentioned this gesture, saying, "All diamonds, white gold. He made one for me and one for him." This presents another layer of complexity, indicating closeness with both Fedez and Lucci, characterizing their relationships as intertwined beyond mere camaraderie.

Despite these developments, Conti has stood firm, reiteratively challenging the notion of removing Fedez from the competition. "We are in a state where the presumption of innocence is fundamental. If circumstances change, there will be consequences, but at this stage, this is the situation."

The Sanremo festival, historically regarded as one of Italy's most important cultural events, now faces scrutiny, overshadowed by allegations surrounding its performers. Fans and critics alike are left wondering how this situation will resolve and what, if any, impact it will have on the event and Fedez's career. With significant public interest at stake, the question remains: will Fedez perform at Sanremo 2025, or will the dark clouds of controversy force him to reconsider? The stage is set, and many await the final outcome as the festival continues.
