A tragic accident on the BR-277 highway in Morretes, Paraná, claimed the life of one individual on Thursday, April 17, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 2:45 PM, involved a collision between two vehicles and was exacerbated by the fall of a tree onto the roadway.
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident took place at kilometer 45, on the lane heading towards the coast. The collision resulted in the immediate closure of the highway, causing significant traffic disruptions. EPR Litoral Pioneiro, the company responsible for managing the highway, reported that both lane 1 and the shoulder in the coastal direction were closed for emergency response efforts. Additionally, lane 1 in the direction of Curitiba remained blocked.
Initial reports indicated that the accident led to a total blockage of the highway, with traffic queues quickly building up. By 3 PM, the congestion had reached approximately 5.7 kilometers as emergency teams worked to clear the scene. Despite the partial reopening of lane 1 towards the coast shortly after, lane 2 and the shoulder remained closed, leading to further delays.
As the situation developed, EPR Litoral Pioneiro announced that both lane 1 and lane 2 towards the coast were reopened by 4:53 PM, allowing for some relief in traffic flow. However, the shoulder towards Paranaguá and lane 1 towards Curitiba continued to be obstructed. Traffic in the coastal direction was still experiencing heavy congestion, ultimately extending to 17 kilometers.
