Fashion Industry Mourns Death Of Lola Casademunt

The founder and visionary of the fashion label passed away at 93, leaving behind a powerful legacy.

The fashion world is mourning the loss of Lola Casademunt, the visionary founder of the eponymous label, who passed away on December 30, 2024, at the age of 93. Known for her tenacity and creativity, Lola demonstrated remarkable resilience, establishing her brand from scratch after becoming widowed with four children to support.

According to the company, "With heavy hearts, we deeply regret to announce the passing of our founder and the soul of our company, Mrs. Lola Casademunt." This somber announcement highlights not just the loss of a beloved person, but also the departure of the driving force behind one of Spain's leading fashion houses.

Born and raised in Catalonia, Lola's story began to take shape after her husband’s death when she faced the immense challenge of providing for her family. It was 1981, and with her only source of income gone, she quickly pivoted to entrepreneurship. Using her creativity, she started making and selling hair accessories from her home in Cardedeu, just outside Barcelona. Her craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to open her own mercería, or sewing shop, where her designs gained popularity.

Just two years later, she officially founded the brand Lola Casademunt, which would grow to become immensely successful. Her daughter, Maite Gassó, joined the family business at the age of 19 after earning her degree from the School of Image and Design of Barcelona. Maite's fresh vision rejuvenated the brand with vibrant colors and modern styles, pushing it to new heights.

"Lola turned this venture from her life project and her ambition, values, and commitment will continue to be our goal to make her legacy endure," read the company's heartfelt message. Under Maite's leadership, the brand expanded significantly and began showcasing at prominent events like the 080 Barcelona Fashion and received international acclaim. The last show, held last September, featured notable ambassadors from various industries, signifying the brand's growing prestige.

Even as Lola retired from the creative direction of the label, she remained a pivotal figure whose presence continued to inspire both employees and admirers alike. "I learned many valuable lessons from my mother, which have shaped both my personal and professional life," Maite shared with enthusiasm, reflecting on the indelible impact her mother had on her through dedication and perseverance.

With Lola's passing, the fashion industry has lost not just a talented designer but also a pioneer who broke through barriers, establishing herself and her brand with courage. Her commitment to family, work, and creativity served as the foundation upon which the label stands today, operating under the guiding legacy of its founder.

The future looks bright for Lola Casademunt, with plans to increase international presence and reach new markets, projecting significant financial growth. The company expects to reach €57 million this year, marking a 26% increase from 2023.

Today, as the team reflects on her extraordinary life, they pledge to carry forward her vision and abide by her guiding principles. The firm remains determined to uphold her legacy, ensuring her influential role remains integral to its identity. Lola Casademunt is not just remembered as the founder; she is celebrated as the heart of the brand.
