VALÈNCIA (EP) - Farmamundi has signed an agreement with the Alfafar City Council to support a food aid program aimed at families facing vulnerability, particularly due to the recent DANA flooding. This initiative primarily targets the elderly, who were hardest hit by the natural disaster.
The project, which is set to initially help 113 individuals, can be expanded based on need and aims to deliver healthy, home-cooked meals directly to those affected. The coordinator of social services at Alfafar City Council, Marián Pérez, explained, "This program includes two daily menus, lunch and dinner. Each meal consists of a first course, second course, dessert, and bread." She emphasized the importance of effectively managing donations and assistance, stating, "One of our top priorities is to turn assistance and donationsinto properly managed resources. Hence, we are currently working to secure hot meals through our partnership with Farmamundi."
A significant aspect of this initiative is its focus on elderly individuals who have mobility issues or who live on the ground floors of buildings where the elevators remain out of service, making it challenging for them to access food resources.
Joan Peris, the director general of Farmamundi, stressed the importance of proper nutrition for the health and well-being of individuals, particularly the elderly. He stated, "Adequate nutrition plays a significant role in the health and well-being of people, especially seniors. Through our collective efforts with Alfafar's social services, who understand the realities of their community, we want to contribute to the health improvement of those whose quality of life has been diminished by the DANA flooding."
The respective agreement between the NGO and the city council is valued at 80,000 euros, aimed at addressing the population impacted by the flooding. This funding is subject to increase depending on available resources. To professionalize the support provided, the council has engaged Serunion, a catering service provider, for the hot meal delivery under the municipal program 'Menjars i sopars'.
Farmamundi's initiative responds to the pressing needs of the community and is part of broader recovery efforts following the devastating effects of the flooding. The organization aims to provide relief and support to families, ensuring access to nutritious meals during this challenging recovery period.
Through programs like this, Farmamundi reaffirms its commitment to helping vulnerable populations navigate the aftermath of disasters, enhancing not just nutritional needs but overall quality of life for those impacted.
