Farewell Ceremony For Beloved Actress Larisa Golubkina Begins In Moscow

Tributes pour in as fans and colleagues gather to honor the legacy of a cinema icon.

In Moscow, the farewell ceremony for legendary actress Larisa Golubkina began on March 25, 2025, at the Church of St. Nicholas on Three Mountains. This moving event honored a beloved figure in Russian cinema, who passed away just days earlier.

Lara, as she was affectionately known to her fans, died on March 22, 2025, at the age of 85, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Born on March 9, 1940, in Moscow, Golubkina first graced the silver screen with her role in El'dar Ryazanov’s acclaimed film Hussar Ballad, which became a classic in Russian film history. Her career was marked by remarkable versatility and a dynamic presence that captivated audiences.

The funeral service, attended by family, friends, and notable figures from the entertainment industry, began at 11:00 AM (Moscow time). Among those present were renowned TV presenter Andrei Malakhov, art critic Natalia Sopolova, and actor Alexander Strizhenov, who expressed their sorrow at the loss of a brilliant star who was not just a colleague but a friend. Strizhenov referred to Golubkina as a part of a larger acting family that includes prominent names like Mikhail Derzhavin and Lyudmila Gurchenko.

During the ceremony, tributes poured in, with colleagues acknowledging the indelible mark Golubkina left on Russian theater and cinema. “Larisa Ivanovna was a stunning actress, an incredible person, and a remarkable partner,” said Ksenia Taran, a fellow actress from the Army Theater. She reflected on how Golubkina always maintained a striking appearance, remaining stylish and beautiful until the end of her days.

Golubkina spent her final years struggling with third-stage blood cancer, a difficult battle that she fought with dignity. After her passing, the news of her death sent shockwaves through the cultural community in Russia, with expressions of grief reaching even the higher echelons of government. President Vladimir Putin extended condolences to Golubkina's daughter, Maria, recognizing the profound impact her mother had in shaping the nation’s theatrical and cinematic landscape.

An array of wreaths and flowers was sent to the ceremony by various organizations, including the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army and the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, marking the collective respect and admiration for Golubkina's contributions to the arts. Her talent was often compared to that of a "clay figurine," able to transform effortlessly into diverse characters—from courageous wartime nurses to innocent heroines.

Larisa Golubkina's legacy is not just one of roles played on screen but also her influence on countless actors and actresses who followed in her footsteps. Her journey through the realms of acting was characterized by a unique ability to connect with characters deeply, making her portrayal genuine and heartfelt.

Following the service, Golubkina is expected to be laid to rest at the Troyekurovsky cemetery, a distinguished resting place she will share with her late husband, Andrei Mironov. Unfortunately, there was no possibility to bury her alongside him at the Vagan'kovskoe Cemetery due to space constraints.

As the farewell ceremony took place, attendees reflected on the luminous spirit Golubkina embodied, often calling her a "positive person" who brought joy to those around her. Dovlatova, a TV presenter, reminisced about the warmth of their interactions, saying that it felt as though Golubkina was perpetually young, with a spirit that never aged.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt memories and expressions of gratitude for a life well-lived. Golubkina's contributions to the stage and screen may be concluded, but her artistry will certainly live on in the hearts of many, continuing to inspire future generations.
