Family Pleads For Help To Find Missing Hawaii Woman

Hannah Kobayashi's family grows desperate for answers after alarming messages and disappearance near LAX

A family is anxiously searching for 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, who went missing shortly after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on November 8, 2024. Originally from Maui, Hawaii, Hannah was en route to New York City to visit family when she missed her connecting flight. With communication from her dwindling, her relatives grew increasingly concerned, especially after receiving alarming text messages.

Hannah's last known contact was through texts sent on November 11, where she expressed feelings of fear and indicated she thought someone was trying to steal her money. Her aunt, Laire Pidgeon, revealed, "Messages saying she did not feel safe. She was worried about people stealing her money" and noted the family received strange texts after her arrival.

On November 8, after landing at LAX, Kobayashi was supposed to fly to New York but never boarded the flight. Instead, she appeared to have spent time exploring the vibrant city of Los Angeles. Surveillance footage indicates she was seen two days after her arrival, wandering near The Grove, a popular shopping center, where she attended the LeBron XXII Trial Experience at Nike.

According to reports, Kobayashi was spotted on November 9 at the Taschen bookstore and posted to her Instagram account during the Nike event on November 10. These uncharacteristic behaviors raised fears for her safety. Her whereabouts became more concerning when she went silent, having stopped all communication on November 11.

Despite family members initiating search efforts and spreading the word on social media platforms, the Los Angeles Police Department has categorized her disappearance as a missing persons case, stating it is still under investigation with the FBI stepping in to assist. Laire Pidgeon noted, "We’re trying to keep hope alive, but it has now been basically over week and we are anxious for any updates."

Further complicate the situation are the strange texts sent by Hannah, which included references to identity theft, indicating she felt manipulated and endangered, stating, “Deep hackers wiped my identity, stole all of my funds, and have had me on a mind f**k since Friday.” Her texts raised alarm bells among family and friends, who noted she had never communicated this way before.

The family is now desperately attempting to retrace her steps. They have publicized their search through social media and established a GoFundMe page to support expenses related to the investigation. "While the community support has been truly astonishing, we are still pushing harder to expedite the process," said her sister, Sydni Kobayashi, on the fundraising page.

With the urgency of their search rising daily, relatives have arrived from Hawaii to Los Angeles, working closely with law enforcement to gather potential leads, monitoring city cameras, and sharing updates on local social media groups dedicated to aiding missing persons. One of the clips they obtained shows Hannah seemingly distressed, walking with someone near the Crypto.com Arena, but it remains unclear if this person could be trusted or is part of the mystery surrounding her disappearance.

Hannah is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, and fair skin featuring freckles. Out of fear and despair, her family now worries she might have fallen victim to something far worse, with talk of abduction or trafficking hanging heavily over their heads.

While law enforcement agencies have their procedures to follow, the frustration among the family persists. They lament their inability to pry detailed updates from the police, feeling the high sense of urgency to find Hannah necessitates immediate action. Her cousin, Emi Ko, noted on social media, "Her movements have been unclear, her phone has been shut off and her family and friends have been working tirelessly to retrace her steps."

Kobayashi's case has prompted local communities and organizations to rally together, increasing outreach and assistance toward finding her. Family members hope the publicity surrounding the search will lead to new information from anyone who may have seen her or have any insight. She was known to visit different parts of the city during her brief time there, leaving many avenues of investigation open.

Anyone with possible information is strongly encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department. The community and the family continue to plead for help, hoping someone may have seen Hannah or might know what happened to her during her time wandering the city.

This desperate situation exemplifies the anxiety and heartbreak families face when they lose contact with loved ones and reinforces the importance of community engagement and awareness. The rising tensions surrounding missing persons cases have shed light on systemic issues of safety, communication, and the urgency required when someone vanishes without explanation.
