Italian literature and artistic culture are celebrating several exciting new releases, showcasing the creative talents of interdisciplinary artists, theatrical institutions, and sports journalism.
One significant release is 'FA VO LO SI,' authored by Flavio Sciolè, which will be available just in time for Christmas. The book, which includes only 200 limited copies, is the result of collaboration with Marco Fioramanti, who is not only co-author but also brings his extensive artistic background to the project. Fioramanti, known for his work across various mediums including painting and installations, has lived and researched extensively abroad, particularly focused on shamanism and culture. After pursuing engineering, he has been committed to integrated arts, joining the Trattista Movement and participating in various prestigious art festivals and projects over the decades.
Fioramanti’s creative history features notable milestones, including his participation at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and contributions to international venues. Combined with Sciolè’s innovative storytelling approach, 'FA VO LO SI' promises to be both visually and narratively rich.
Meanwhile, the Rossetti Theatre, one of the prime cultural institutions of Friuli Venezia Giulia, celebrates 70 years of artistic contribution with the publication of 'Dal Vivo. I settant'anni del Rossetti - Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia.' Curated by Paolo Quazzolo, this comprehensive volume reflects on the theatre's evolution through its rich history and the influence of its directors, including Mimma Gallina, the first female director, who contributed significantly to the institution.
Quazzolo noted, "The period of Covid had made us fear the theatre might reach its endpoint, yet audiences have returned. Theatre retains the unique privilege of being live performance, which cannot be replicated." The book discusses over 650 productions and various artistic contributions, highlighting how the theatre has managed to balance cultural and entertainment roles, engaging audiences from diverse backgrounds.
An enriching aspect of this year for the arts is the release of Massimiliano Bordignon's 'L’Hockey su Ghiaccio – Tutta la Stagione 2023-24.' This annual publication interlaces the world of hockey with cultural narratives, providing insights beyond mere statistics. Bordignon stated, "Hockey needs to be narrated, not just watched. Without exploring the environments where the sport thrives, it is challenging to generate interest, especially with the upcoming 2026 Olympics in Milan-Cortina.”
The book not only provides results and rankings but is heavily illustrated with high-quality photographs capturing the essence of hockey venues across Europe, melding the thrill of sports with cultural exploration. It aims to make hockey more appealing and visible to fans and newcomers alike.
Scheduled for availability on December 28, 2024, is another eagerly anticipated title, this time focused on the historical roots of Tropea. Curated by Saverio Ciccarelli, the book poses the intriguing question of identifying the 'birthday' of Tropea, tracing its establishment through historical and mythical narratives. Ciccarelli has gathered contributions from six esteemed local historians to argue for approximated dating of the city's founding.
Reflecting on the significance of this exploration, Ciccarelli shares, "Our work aims to catalyze conversation among scholars and citizens, facilitating a scientific dialogue previously untapped." He envisions this work as not just academic but also as nurturing community ties and potentially enhancing Tropea’s cultural tourism.
From Fioramanti’s illustrated stories to Bordignon’s sports anthology and Ciccarelli’s historical discovery, Italian literary and artistic scenes remain vibrant and dynamic, showcasing the interplay of culture, performance, and historical inquiry. These releases reflect the rich creative vein present within Italy’s literary and artistic circles, establishing connections across different mediums and narratives.
