From the scenic beauty of British Columbia to the cultural splendor of Sichuan, discover where your favorite shows were filmed.

The Hallmark Channel’s newest movie, “The Wish Swap,” is set to premiere on Saturday, February 8, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central, showcasing yet another charming adventure from the network. The film stars Emily Tennant and Jake Foy, and it promises to paint a delightful story woven with heartwarming feelings. But where was the film shot? Read on to discover the filming locations and the behind-the-scenes stories from the cast.

‘The Wish Swap’ was filmed predominantly in British Columbia, Canada. According to IMDb, the new Loveuary movie was recorded mostly in Maple Ridge, about one hour east of Vancouver, with additional scenes filmed around the city as confirmed through Instagram posts from the cast. MapleRidge.ca provides detailed information, stating the movie was filmed between November 18-20, with locations such as the Chameleon Restaurant, Witchcraft Beer Market, and 224 Street serving as the backdrop.

Director David I. Strasser shared his enthusiasm about the film via Instagram, posting behind-the-scenes pictures and commenting, “#TheWishSwap is #COMINGSOON! 🍿🎟️💫.” He also elaborated on LinkedIn, saying, “This film was such a joy to bring to life. I had the absolute pleasure of directing and executive producing alongside Joel S. Rice, Michael Barbuto, and the amazing team at Muse Entertainment Enterprises. Brilliantly written by Betsy Morris and produced by Front Street Pictures, this one is truly special. Hope you all tune in!”

Interestingly, the town of Maple Ridge has long been associated with Hallmark movies, hosting numerous productions over the decades. Notably, filming has been taking place in the town since the 1970s, initiating with the iconic movie “Rambo.” Since then, shows like “The X-Files,” “Smallville,” “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” and “Stargate SG-1” have been shot there.

While speaking about her filming experience, Tennant remarked, “The goats in the movie were the cutest little co-stars.” This adds a humorous touch to the behind-the-scenes labor of love!

The plot of Hallmark’s “The Wish Swap” revolves around two people, Casey and Henry, who, celebrating their birthdays at the same restaurant, make simultaneous birthday wishes, resulting in each getting the other’s dreams. Emily Tennant plays Casey, known for her previous roles, such as Ivy in “Mr. Young” and her voiceover work as Polly Pocket. She has also starred alongside Hallmark's recurring productions including “Cedar Cove” and “The Wedding March” films.

Jake Foy plays Henry and is well-known for portraying Tuff in “Ride,” King James from “Reign,” and Felix from “Designated Survivor.” His career began with his part as Troy Bolton in “High School Musical: On Stage!” and he honed his craft at Sheridan College, making him another standout addition to the cast.

Switching focus, another recent drama, “The White Olive Tree,” showcases the beauty of its filming locations alongside moving storytelling. The vibrant Chinese series tells the poignant tale of Song Ran, portrayed by Liang Jie, and Li Zan, played by Chen Zhe Yuan, who bond amid horrific war experiences. They find solace through each other’s support after being separated by tragedy.

Notably, the drama utilizes the scenic city of Leshan, Sichuan, China, as the backdrop for its emotionally charged scenes. Leshan, famous for its rich culture and history, also boasts the UNESCO World Heritage site with the Leshan Giant Buddha, making it not only beautiful but significant. The entire first season consists of 38 episodes and is currently available for streaming on iQIYI.

The storyline begins depicting events set within the East Country, albeit fictional; nonetheless, the picturesque landscapes of Leshan provide authenticity and depth to the scene setting. The Leshan Giant Buddha stands as the largest stone Buddha statue globally, carved out of the cliff with great detail, embodying Buddhism's cultural essence.

For those intrigued by visiting these filming sites, Leshan is approximately 120 kilometers from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, which means traveling through beautiful stretches of the Sichuan basin. The best way to experience this architectural marvel is through the scenic area or via boat ride offering panoramic views.

Thereto, hiking on Mount Emei offers yet another adventure close to the Leshan Giant Buddha, showcasing breathtaking greenery and important Buddhist temples scattered throughout the mount’s foothills.

Food lovers will find Sichuan cuisine irresistible, thanks to the region's famed flavors. Leshan offers numerous local delicacies highlighting spicy and pungent seasonings, perfect for creating memorable culinary experiences.

The charming landscapes of both Hallmark movies and compelling Chinese dramas serve not only to narrate emotional tales but also draw audiences to these significant filming locations. Whether it’s the tranquil scenes of Maple Ridge or the cultural riches of Sichuan, each last shot creates memories intertwined with magnificent settings...
