Ewa Swoboda Responds To Social Media Impersonation

The Polish athlete warns fans about fake accounts impersonifying her online.

Prominent Polish athlete Ewa Swoboda has recently faced the challenge of impersonation on social media, raising concerns about the growing prevalence of identity theft among public figures. Following her noteworthy performance at the Ostrava meeting, where she secured second place in the 60-meter race, Swoboda took to Instagram to warn her fans about the creation of a false account purporting to be her on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Swoboda, who has become one of Poland's most recognizable track and field athletes, has been active on social media, sharing personal moments and updates from her athletic career. Her dedicated engagement with fans has only amplified her notoriety. But unfortunately, the rise of fake accounts imitating celebrities has put her at risk.

On her Instagram Story, Swoboda addressed her community directly, saying, "Hejka kochani! Jak większość z was wie, że nie używam Twittera/X, to ktoś zdążył to wykorzystać. Posiadaczom tej platformy zgłoście to konto oraz wszystkie inne, które napotkacie. Pozdrawiam serdecznie" (Hello, my dear! Like most of you know, I don’t use Twitter/X, and someone has exploited this. Please report this account and any others you encounter). This direct communication aims to clear up any confusion among her followers and protect her online identity.

The impersonator managed to create the account under the username "littlerunner01," which is misleadingly similar to Swoboda’s actual Instagram handle, "litttlerunner," with three letter "t"s. This misunderstanding not only affected her image but also disrupted her relationship with fans who may have mistakenly interacted with the fake account.

Swoboda's plea for support reflects how the digital age poses significant challenges for public figures trying to maintain their image and connection with supporters. The response from fans and the general public can play a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of such impersonations.

Interestingly, Swoboda is not alone. Celebrity chef and TV personality Robert Makłowicz recently found himself ensnared by similar issues when someone impersonated him on TikTok. Makłowicz clarified he does not have an account on the platform and has no intention of creating one. His impersonator, much like Swoboda's, was making comments and engaging with political content he does not endorse. These cases highlight the widespread nature of this issue across various domains of public popularity.

Incidents like these have sparked conversations about the need for more stringent regulations and support structures to protect individuals from impersonation and identity theft. Swoboda's proactive action serves as both a cautionary tale and a rallying cry for awareness—encouraging public figures and fans alike to stay vigilant against the proliferation of fake accounts.

Swoboda’s athletic career is on the rise, and she has expressed optimism for the upcoming season, hoping for victories and personal growth. "To będzie sezon wygrywania Ewy" (This will be the season of winning for Ewa), she stated during interviews, and even as she faces these digital challenges, her focus remains steadfast on achieving her goals on the track.

This intersection of celebrity culture and digital reliability emphasizes the need for continued vigilance as more athletes and public figures increase their presence online. With social media platforms becoming integral to communication, the impersonation of recognizable figures poses real risks not just to their image, but also to the experiences and interactions with their fans.

Through her experience, Ewa Swoboda is spotlighting the potential dangers within the digital age and reminding everyone to be aware of who they are actually engaging with online—a lesson that's particularly timely as impersonation cases continue to rise.
