This playful act is in celebration of Heracles' recent derby win over their rivals, FC Twente. "It's a fun action," Weits explained, noting that his students at the school where he teaches are divided in their loyalties between Heracles and FC Twente. "I jokingly said that if Heracles won, I would run the Enschede Marathon in their shirt. If I get the Vak-P supporters behind me, I’ll probably run a lot faster!"
Weits' shirt features the words 'Derbywinst' along with the score '2-1' printed on the back, alongside the name 'Suf Suf Suf', a nod to Heracles' player Suf Podgoreanu. "I always see him play up close, and while he might stumble sometimes, he works incredibly hard and is loved by the fans," Weits commented.
On the same day as the marathon, both FC Twente and Heracles Almelo will be competing in the Eredivisie. FC Twente will face PEC Zwolle away at 2:30 PM, while Heracles Almelo will host AZ. "If we win against AZ and Twente wins against PEC Zwolle, everyone in the region will be happy on Sunday afternoon," Weits added, highlighting the interconnected excitement of the local football scene and the marathon.
