Enschede Marathon 2025 Sees Thrilling Performances From Local Runners

Runners from multiple clubs excelled at various events across the region

On April 13, 2025, runners from various clubs showcased their talents at multiple prestigious events, demonstrating their skills and determination across the board. The day was highlighted by the Enschede Marathon, a time-honored race that has drawn participants since 1947, and this year was no different. The atmosphere was electric, with many runners from Loopgroep Hengevelde and other local clubs taking part in both the half and full marathon events.

Among the participants, Loopgroep Hengevelde had a strong showing. The club's members were not just racing; they were competing with passion, aiming for personal bests and relishing the experience. The camaraderie and support from the local community added to the excitement, making this marathon feel like a home game for many.

Meanwhile, runners from Markelo were making their mark at four different major running events. Ruud Brok and Steven Keuper took on the Marathon de Paris, successfully completing the grueling 42.2 kilometers in a commendable time of 3:56:56. Their achievement added to the legacy of this iconic marathon, which attracts thousands of runners from around the globe.

Over in Rotterdam, Anne Baas participated in the Marathon Rotterdam, finishing the 42.2 kilometers in an impressive time of 3:47:09 while raising funds for KWF Kankerbestrijding. Rutger Wissink and Martijn Schreurs also took part in this marathon, clocking in at 3:49:53 and 4:38:37 respectively. Their performances contributed to a day filled with personal victories and memorable experiences.

Back at the Enschede Marathon, the local representation was strong, with 34 participants from Markelo taking on various distances. Martin Zwiers led the charge in the full marathon, completing the 42.2 kilometers in 3:28:40. Following closely were René Sligman, who finished in 3:36:23, and Pym de Heer, who not only completed the marathon in 3:41:35 but also became the Twents champion among the firewomen. Sligman’s performance earned him second place among the firemen, showcasing the competitive spirit of the local firefighters.

Other notable finishes in the Enschede Marathon included Tim De Rudder (3:50:12), Barry Hondelink (3:55:36), Corné Stukker (3:57:48), and Marlon Renes (4:33:20). Each of these runners tackled the marathon with grit and determination, embodying the spirit of the event.

The half marathon also saw impressive performances. Sander Leunk stood out with a time of 1:39:27, followed by Roland Stege (1:42:49), Levy Visser (1:50:06), and Frank Bussink (2:00:14). Their efforts contributed to a competitive atmosphere, with many runners pushing each other to achieve their best.

In addition to the marathons, various other events took place across the region. Patrick Roeterdink participated in the 10 kilometer ROSEN CityRUN, finishing in 46:37, while Sterre Holterman and Joanne Roeterdink completed the same distance in 57:08 and 57:19 respectively. The diversity in distances allowed runners of all levels to participate and enjoy the day.

The 5 kilometer Univé FitRUN also attracted participants, with Laura Kempers finishing in 23:42, Sten Bargeman in 28:40, and Ferre Bargeman in 31:11. This event provided a perfect opportunity for newer runners to test their stamina and enjoy the thrill of competition.

In Deventer, runners participated in the IJsselloop, with Mieke Prins completing the 10 kilometers in a solid time of 51 minutes. On the 5 kilometers, Lisa Tjoink and Sharon Ebbekink finished in 26:45 and 31:55 respectively, showcasing the breadth of talent among local athletes.
