Reports from communities like Kuan Thon highlight the dire situation for livestock as well. Farmers are rushing to save hundreds of young pigs from drowning after their farms were submerged. Local farmer, Prasak Tongkhong, voiced the plight of families grappling with both immediate loss and fears for their livelihood as the floodwaters threaten their homes and animals.
Efforts to restore connectivity are complicated; power lines have fallen, and internet access has been severely affected, exacerbated by torrential rains described as abnormal for this dry season. Villagers have expressed shock at the sudden onslaught of rain, with some areas recording floods rising by nearly 2 meters.
Local leaders, including Boonleard Sangrod, Chief of the La Khon Subdistrict Administrative Organization, are actively coordinating with electric utilities to expedite repairs and provide temporary infrastructure solutions, like makeshift footbridges. "We are doing our best to connect communities and restore normality. Our priority is ensuring residents have safe access to essentials and assistance," he said.
Authorities have also issued several flood warnings as the water levels continue to rise, particularly around key rivers like the Bang Nara, Sai Buri, and Golok. Ongoing rain has raised concerns about mudslides and other risks, prompting guidance to community leaders to evacuate vulnerable locals to higher ground when needed.
