Following Trump's encouragement, Musk announced via Twitter-X, "According to President Donald Trump, all federal employees will soon receive emails requesting explanations of what they accomplished last week." He emphasized serious consequences, stating, "Failure to respond will be considered resigning."

This message was quickly echoed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which sent emails under the title, "What Did You Accomplish Last Week?" The emails mandated federal employees to respond with about five bullet points detailing their work from the previous week to their supervisors, under strict instructions not to include any confidential information or links.

Reports indicate this sudden wave of emails sent shockwaves through the federal workforce. Employees were left confused and anxious over the lack of clarity surrounding the ramifications of their replies. Many received the email marked with high importance and were reportedly unsure whether failure to respond would lead to termination.
