As warmer temperatures arrive and the Easter holidays approach, the beaches of El Campello are gearing up for the busy season ahead. This weekend marks the activation of various seasonal services designed to enhance safety and enjoyment for beachgoers. These services include lifeguard patrols, sunbeds, beach bars known as chiringuitos, and nautical channels, all aimed at ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience on the popular beaches.
Last weekend, the first beach bars began to open, signaling the start of the peak season. The Puka Puka chiringuito opened its doors on April 1, 2025, providing a vibrant summer atmosphere with its sunny terrace. Following suit, the Saoko chiringuito in Muchavista and the Moana chiringuito on Carrer la Mar will commence operations on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Soon after, visitors can also expect to see Alima, Candilazo, and Koba opening their doors in Muchavista.
The lifeguard team will also begin their service on April 12, ensuring safety on the most frequented beaches: Muchavista, Carrer la Mar, and Lanuza. Their presence will be crucial during the Semana Santa holiday and the Primero de Mayo holiday, as well as throughout the summer season, which runs from June 1 to September 30. Lifeguard services will extend to l’Almadrava, l’Amerador, and Cala del Morro Blanc beaches from June 15 to September 15.
In a significant move towards inclusivity, accessible bathing points will be available at Muchavista and Carrer La Mar beaches for individuals with physical disabilities or reduced mobility starting June 15. These points will be staffed by trained professionals who can assist users until September 15. Additionally, an area dedicated to individuals with intellectual disabilities will operate at Carrer la Mar beach from July 1 to August 31.
As the summer approaches, other attractions like the water park, beach libraries (biblioplayas), and the ferry service to Isla de Tabarca will also commence their operations, enhancing the overall beach experience for visitors.
Meanwhile, in Almería, beach businesses are also preparing for the upcoming season, expecting favorable weather conditions to draw in crowds. José Membrives Pérez, the owner of the Tío Pepe chiringuito on Almería beach, is busy readying his establishment for reopening after being closed for more than six months. Workers are painting the bar's exterior, setting up wooden parasols, and arranging foam sun loungers to welcome guests.
Another chiringuito, Terraza del Mar, is also in the midst of preparations, cleaning and renewing its facilities to ensure everything is in top shape for the influx of beachgoers. Almería is known for its numerous chiringuitos, with over 100 traditional establishments stretching from Adra to Terreros. These beach bars have been a staple in the region since the 1960s and 70s, despite facing legal challenges and changes in regulations regarding coastal laws.
The Association of Beach Businesses (Faeplayas) has shared optimistic forecasts for the chiringuito season, which kicks off this Semana Santa and runs until October. This season includes both seasonal chiringuitos, which are typically permitted for four years, and those with year-round concessions, which can last up to 30 years. The operational model can vary significantly depending on the specific location along the coast.
As the beaches of El Campello and Almería prepare to welcome visitors, the excitement for the summer season is palpable. The combination of beautiful weather, vibrant beach bars, and enhanced safety measures promises a lively atmosphere for all who visit. Whether enjoying a meal at a chiringuito, soaking up the sun on a beach bed, or taking a dip in the sea, beachgoers can look forward to a memorable experience along the stunning Spanish coastline.
