Ekaterina Leonova's Illness Forces Boyfriend To Step Up On Let's Dance

Diego Pooth recounts training struggles with Ekaterina's boyfriend filling in during her recovery

Ekaterina Leonova, one of the standout professional dancers on the popular show "Let's Dance," has faced unexpected challenges as she fell ill just days before the first regular performance of the season. This situation led to her boyfriend, Ilya Viarmenich, stepping in as the substitute for her dance partner, Diego Pooth.

During the initial training session for the show, Diego Pooth, the son of television personality Verona Pooth, revealed how demanding the workouts can be. "I have to tell you, she (Leonova) is often referred to as 'the General'. She is very, very hard in training. There are almost no breaks," Diego shared with RTL. This intensity became apparent as he had the opportunity to dance with Ilya, who is also known for his strict training style. "He was then my dance partner for two days and he is even harder!" he remarked.

Originally, Leonova was expected to guide Diego through their routines as they prepared for their show, which airs live on February 28. Unfortunately, her illness had her sidelined. According to Diego, her absence posed unique challenges to his preparations. "I need really much training. I have kind of dance dementia, I would say," he laughed, adding light-heartedly about his struggles to memorize the routines.

During this period, Ilya's support proved invaluable. He was more than just another partner, as both he and Ekaterina were well aware of the pressures associated with competing on the show. Pooth spoke positively about the experience of training with Ilya, even under the pressure. “It was strict, but we did work hard and had fun at the same time,” he noted.

Although initially concerning, Leonova's condition took a turn for the positive. Just when Diego began to feel the weight of training only with Ilya, Leonova regained her health. She is expected to rejoin her partner on the dance floor for the show. This shift brings relief, not only for Diego but for the fans as well, who eagerly await to see her return.

The fans of "Let's Dance" have rallied behind the contestants, wanting to see how this season plays out. With Diego Pooth as one of the newest contestants and Ekaterina Leonova by his side, the duo has formidable chemistry and talent. Pooth's reflections on the experience show how pivotal the partnership is, especially under the duress of competition.

While discussing the training, Diego highlighted the resilience needed to be part of the competition. He will face an audience for the first time as he performs with Ekaterina, which adds to the excitement and pressure. Notably, he mentioned he would miss the guidance of his mother, who has been supporting him during this venture, but acknowledges the thrill of performing on such a grand stage.

All eyes will be on Diego and Ekaterina as they hit the dance floor together for the performance. With Leonova's recovery and return to the show, viewers can look forward to witnessing her remarkable dancing skills once again.

"I can take rigorous training and do the necessary work to improve," Diego cheerfully concluded, displaying his optimism for the competition. Fans can expect the pair to bring forth their best moves, showcasing the rigorous preparation they've undertaken together, reinforced by the unique support from Ilya.

The anticipation for the first elimination will add another layer of excitement as the duo steps onto the stage. To fans, having Ekaterina back not only brings them joy but also reassures them of her practices setting the tone for the season. The dynamic between the contestants, the challenges faced, and their resilience builds engaging storylines this season on "Let's Dance."
