Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 Preparations Underway In Pakistan

Fresh currency notes and moon sighting anticipation enhance festive spirit as holiday approaches.

As Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 approaches, Pakistanis are eagerly preparing to celebrate this important occasion. A significant part of the festivities involves the tradition of gifting cash, known as Eidi, which is given to children and family members by older relatives or family friends. However, obtaining fresh currency notes for this custom often proves challenging for citizens.

To facilitate the public, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has made substantial efforts, distributing Rs 27 billion worth of fresh banknotes across 17,000 commercial bank branches nationwide. Bank officials have stated that although there is no designated system for obtaining new notes, citizens can visit their respective banks with their CNIC to secure fresh currency on a first-come, first-served basis.

To ensure smooth note distribution during this festive season, the SBP has deployed cash monitoring teams across the country. Moreover, ATMs will be stocked with clean and quality notes throughout the period leading up to Eid. It has been suggested that customers interested in securing new notes visit their bank branch starting March 24 and inform the branch manager of their requirements.

In addition to obtaining new currency, customers have the option to exchange their existing cash for fresh notes at a one-to-one exchange rate, meaning they will receive the same amount of new notes as the cash they provide. While the regulations around getting these new notes are not entirely defined, customers with a favorable relationship with their branch manager may have better luck.

As excitement builds for Eid, the SBP has issued a warning against counterfeit currency notes circulating in the market. Citizens are advised to be vigilant and learn how to identify fake 5000 and 1000 rupee notes.

In conjunction with currency preparations, the Islamic community is awaiting the sighting of the moon of Shawwal 1446 AH, expected on the evening of March 30, 2025. This event marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid celebrations. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the new moon is predicted to be born upon crossing the conjunction point at 15:58 PST on March 29, 2025. The PMD stated, "Based on astronomical parameters, there is a 'good chance' of sighting the crescent on March 30.

Earlier predictions from the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) indicated that the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan is likely to fall on March 31, 2025. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene on March 30 to officially confirm the moon's sighting. The announcement will hold particular significance, as it will determine the date for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations across the nation.

The government has also taken proactive steps by announcing three days of public holidays in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, stretching from March 31 to April 2, 2025. This time frame allows families to gather and celebrate together, reinforcing the essence of community and gratitude during the festivities.

The festive atmosphere surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr is further enriched as families and friends come together for meals, prayers, and gift-giving. The heartwarming traditions associated with this holiday reflect both the joy and responsibility that comes with the celebration. The spirit of giving and charity permeates the days leading up to Eid, with many Muslims making end-of-Ramadan donations to those in need through Zakat-ul-Fitr, affirming the importance of compassion and support within the community.

As Pakistanis prepare for this year's Eid celebrations, the anticipation is palpable. With fresh currency notes in circulation and the potential sighting of the moon so closely approaching, this Eid-ul-Fitr promises to be both a joyful and meaningful event for families across the nation. The blending of traditional practices with the festive spirit encapsulates the essence of belonging and unity in the face of shared values and cultural heritage.

The excitement is tangible as Eid-ul-Fitr draw near, and the confluence of currency preparations, moon sighting, and holiday plans sets the stage for a grand celebration. Communities are reminded of the significance of this festival, reinforcing connections among family members and showcasing a shared faith that draws people closer each year.
