Egyptian Library Boosts Youth Engagement Through Leadership Training

Assiut's Public Library launches initiatives to empower youth with leadership skills and community awareness.

The Public Library of Egypt located in Assiut is taking significant strides to boost community awareness among the youth. Under the direction of Dr. Hisham Abu al-Nasr, the Governor of Assiut, the library is organizing various activities and events traditional to this region aimed explicitly at improving societal consciousness.

Dr. Hisham Abu al-Nasr emphasized the importance of these activities by stating, "We must raise awareness among youth to face challenges and contribute to development. The support provided will help overcome obstacles for citizens of all demographics." This initiative aligns with the Egyptian government's broader agenda under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to cultivate awareness as part of the Sustainable Development Strategy 2030.

The library, managed by Hagar Mahrous, is not only focusing on literary activities but is also addressing real-world skills through hands-on initiatives. Recently, the library hosted entry tests for students applying to the Khedir Al-Boursaidy School of Arabic Calligraphy. This event is significant as it introduces young people to the rich cultural heritage of Arabic calligraphy, fostering artistic skills.

Alongside this, the library offered leadership training sessions dubbed "Leadership Capsules," which intend to equip young attendees with decision-making abilities and strategies to act under pressure. These sessions cover various leadership styles and the essence of effective management. Hagar Mahrous remarked, "Leadership Capsules will teach decision-making under pressure and various leadership styles, significantly benefiting young people's development." She highlighted the importance of instilling confidence and awareness during these formative years.

The collaboration does not stop at the library level. Dr. Abu al-Nasr stressed the significance of working with governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as civil society entities, to leverage the activities organized at the library for broader community benefit. This effort aims not only at educating the youth academically but also at preparing them to tackle social challenges effectively.

The synergetic relationship between these programs and the government’s commitment to ensuring the youth are equipped with the necessary tools for social participation is evident. By concentrating on leadership and awareness, these initiatives are set to influence the community positively, ensuring the youth are prepared for the ever-evolving challenges facing society today.

With such initiatives gaining momentum, the outlook for youth engagement through the Public Library of Egypt appears promising. It is hoped these programs will cultivate future leaders who will not only carry the torch of Egyptian culture but also drive socio-economic advancements as envisioned by the 2030 strategy for sustainable development.

Endeavors such as these showcase the library's role as more than just a repository of knowledge, transforming it instead, to a hub for growth, learning, and community engagement.
