On March 23, 2025, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) hosted the "EGAT EV: Charge Up Your Business" seminar, attracting over 300 entrepreneurs interested in the electric vehicle (EV) charging station business.
Mr. Saiyan Pan Sang, EGAT's Assistant Governor for Business Development, opened the seminar, sharing insights on business opportunities, technology, and strategies in the growing EV charging sector. This initiative is part of EGAT's broader commitment to support the nation’s shift towards electric vehicles.
During the event, participants explored various aspects of entering the EV charging station business, including the sale of charging equipment, installation, maintenance, and potential for incremental revenue generation from existing businesses. This comprehensive approach aims to boost the ecosystem surrounding electric vehicles in Thailand.
"Over the past four years, EGAT has actively promoted the use of electric vehicles in the country through services like EleX by EGAT, and we have developed the EleXA application to cater to the needs of EV users," said Mr. Pan Sang. "Our goal is to enhance convenience in utilizing electric vehicles and strengthen the EV ecosystem with innovative solutions like the BackEN EV management system, helping all stakeholders collaborate more efficiently at every stage of the supply chain."
Through the EleXA application, users can locate charging stations and access real-time data about station functionality. Mr. Pan Sang emphasized that this system provides significant flexibility, allowing various charger brands to be utilized concurrently, thereby enhancing service availability and efficiency.
Further remarks from Ms. Nattanan Thammaapala, EGAT's Director of Energy Innovation Business Management, underlined the organization’s dedication to advancing knowledge and resources for business operators in the EV charging sector. "We are intent on delivering knowledge and experience alongside establishing a viable and beneficial EV Business Solutions framework for our clients, including the BackEN EV system which is designed for comprehensive management of EV charging stations," said Ms. Thammaapala.
This system allows real-time control and monitoring of the charging stations, showcasing intelligent data analytics and reporting usage data, helping businesses adapt their strategies quickly based on gathered insights.
Currently, over 110 businesses operating commercial EV charging stations are utilizing the BackEN EV system. EGAT aims to target market expansion towards companies engaged in solar energy solutions, service stations, and electrical system installation firms, encouraging them to consider the EV market as a significant growth area.
Moreover, to further enhance capabilities in the EV charging business, EGAT is launching the EGAT Academy, which will partner with vocational educational institutions to offer certification courses specifically focused on electric vehicle service and maintenance. This initiative aims to elevate safety and operational standards within Thailand’s EV ecosystem.
For businesses interested in entering the EV charging station market, EGAT provides free consultations through their EGAT EV Business Solutions team. Interested parties are encouraged to reach out via their Facebook page, website, or Line OA: @BackenEV.
The driving force behind these initiatives is a collaborative spirit between public, private, and civil sectors in promoting sustainable growth in the electric vehicle market, ultimately enhancing accessibility and convenience for consumers using electric vehicles.
