Edomex Extends Vehicle Tax Payment Deadline To April 30

Technical difficulties prompt state officials to offer additional time for vehicle owners to access tax subsidies.

The Finance Secretariat of the State of Mexico has announced an extension for the payment of the 2025 Vehicle Tax, allowing vehicle owners with Edomex plates until April 30, 2025, to fulfill this fiscal obligation. This decision aims to facilitate access to a vehicle subsidy that enables them to pay only the endorsement fee.

On Monday, March 31, 2025, the state authorities confirmed the extension due to reported technical difficulties faced by taxpayers in generating their payment capture lines. Óscar Flores Jiménez, the Secretary of Finance, expressed gratitude for the citizens' interest in accessing the endorsement, which is expected to benefit around two million mexiquenses who own vehicles valued at up to 550,000 pesos without VAT.

According to the 2025 Vehicle Ownership Subsidy Program, the requirements to qualify for the subsidy include having a vehicle with a valid license plate, whose value does not exceed 550,000 pesos for cars and 115,000 pesos for motorcycles, excluding VAT. Taxpayers must also be current on their 2024 tenure payments and pay the 2025 endorsement fee, which is set at 917 pesos for cars and 677 pesos for motorcycles.

The Finance Secretariat emphasized the importance of making payments in advance to avoid last-minute congestion. Taxpayers are encouraged to utilize electronic means, such as the official website edomex.gob.mx, to generate their payment capture lines and complete transactions online or at authorized institutions. For any inquiries or technical issues, taxpayers can visit the Fiscal Service Centers or call 800-715-43-50 for personalized assistance.

In light of the ongoing technical issues with the Tenencia Edomex portal, which has been experiencing failures, the government decided to extend the deadline for obtaining the vehicle ownership subsidy. As the last day to pay the endorsement approached, many users encountered problems accessing the site, which has led to frustration among vehicle owners.

On March 31, 2025, the endorsement payment portal was still malfunctioning, preventing users from completing their transactions. This situation prompted the government to act, ensuring that those who faced challenges in fulfilling their tax obligations would not be penalized for the platform's shortcomings.

As a result of the extension, more citizens can meet the subsidy requirements and benefit from the fiscal discount. The subsidy program aims to alleviate the financial burden on vehicle owners, particularly those with lower-valued vehicles, by allowing them to pay only the endorsement fee instead of the full vehicle tax.

In addition to the requirements mentioned, individuals who fail to pay the endorsement by the new deadline will lose access to the vehicle ownership subsidy. Furthermore, specific groups are ineligible for the subsidy, including those with vehicles registered in other entities, taxpayers with private service vehicles that have not renewed their plates for the 2024 fiscal year, and those with outstanding debts related to the Vehicle Ownership Tax.

To facilitate the payment process, the government has made various payment options available. Taxpayers can either pay online through the designated website or generate a payment format to complete their transactions at one of over five thousand payment points, including department stores, convenience stores, pharmacies, and banks.

As the deadline approaches, the government urges vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid complications. With the extension now in place, the focus remains on ensuring that all eligible taxpayers can access the benefits of the vehicle ownership subsidy without facing undue stress.

The extension of the vehicle ownership subsidy deadline reflects the state government's commitment to providing accessible and efficient services to its citizens. By listening to the public's concerns and responding to their needs, the government aims to maintain a positive relationship with the community.

In summary, the State of Mexico has extended the deadline for the 2025 Vehicle Tax payment to April 30, 2025, in response to technical difficulties faced by taxpayers. This extension allows more citizens to benefit from the subsidy program, which aims to ease the financial burden of vehicle ownership.
