Ed Sheeran Shares Insights On Friendship With Taylor Swift

The singer reveals he meets Swift four times a year for long catch-ups and discusses his new music.

Ed Sheeran recently opened up about his friendship with Taylor Swift, revealing that they meet about four times a year for lengthy catch-ups. During his appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast on April 9, 2025, Sheeran shared fond memories of their time together, especially during Swift's Red Tour in 2013.

Reflecting on those days, the 34-year-old singer recalled, "I lived in Nashville, and she lived in Nashville. We used to fly to and from the gigs together and do all sorts of stuff. I literally spent almost every single day with her for about six months." Their friendship blossomed after they collaborated on the song "Everything Has Changed" for Swift's album Red in 2012.

These days, their meetings are more structured. Sheeran explained, "I probably see her like four times a year... Instead of catching up the whole time, we have like proper sit down six-hour catch-ups, and I think that that's like a really nice way to do it." This approach allows them to deepen their bond despite their busy schedules.

Sheeran's latest single, "Azizam," has just been released, marking the beginning of a series of new music leading up to his upcoming LP, Play. He mentioned on the podcast, "My idea was because the album is so broad, I didn’t want to just be like, ‘Here’s the single. Here’s the album,’ so there’s music coming every sort of two, three weeks." He teased that another song, titled "Old Phone," will be released in a couple of weeks, followed by yet another track.

In a previous interview, Sheeran discussed the inspiration behind "Old Phone," which came about after a nostalgic experience related to his past. He recounted being involved in a copyright infringement lawsuit regarding his hit song "Thinking Out Loud," which concluded with a jury clearing him of any wrongdoing in 2023. As part of the legal process, he was required to submit all his old devices, which led him to rediscover memories from his past.

"I switched it on, it was like going into a time machine," Sheeran explained. The first text he saw was from a friend who had passed away the year before, followed by a text from an ex-girlfriend and messages from family members he hadn't spoken to in years. This emotional journey inspired him to write "Old Phone," as he noted, "That day, I wrote in my notes, like, ‘I found my old phone today.’ Then ... I ended up writing it into a song."

Sheeran's reflections on his friendship with Swift and his creative process highlight the deep connections he maintains with those around him, even amidst the challenges of fame and personal tribulations. As he continues to produce new music and navigate his career, fans eagerly await his upcoming releases and the stories behind them.
