Easter Weekend Supermarket Hours Across The UK

Shoppers should plan ahead for altered hours during the Easter holiday weekend.

The Easter weekend is upon us, and with it comes a shift in supermarket opening hours across the UK. Shoppers are advised to plan ahead as many stores will operate under different schedules due to the holiday. From Good Friday through Easter Monday, various supermarkets will have altered hours, with some even closing entirely on Easter Sunday.

Starting with Tesco, which has multiple locations in Hereford, the opening hours are as follows: the Tesco Ledbury Rd Esso Express will be open on Good Friday, April 18, from 7am to 11pm, and will also welcome customers on Easter Sunday from 7am to 11pm. On Easter Monday, it will operate from 7am to 11pm. The Tesco Buckingham Express will have similar hours, opening on Good Friday from 6am to 11pm, Easter Sunday from 6am to 11pm, and Easter Monday from 6am to 11pm. Tesco Game Express will also follow this schedule.

However, some Tesco locations will close on Easter Sunday. The Abbotsmead Rd Superstore will be open on Good Friday from 8am to 10pm, but it will be closed on Easter Sunday and will reopen on Easter Monday from 8am to 6pm. Likewise, Tesco Bewell Street will be closed on Easter Sunday, with hours set for Good Friday from 6am to 10pm and Easter Monday from 8am to 6pm.

Over at Sainsbury's Hereford Superstore, the store will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 20, but will be open on Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm. Lidl at Brook Retail Park will also close its doors on Easter Sunday, with normal hours on Good Friday and Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm. Aldi, too, will be closed on Easter Sunday, operating on Good Friday from 8am to 10pm and on Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm.

Morrisons will follow a similar pattern, being open on Good Friday from 7am to 10pm, closed on Easter Sunday, and open on Easter Monday from 7am to 8pm. The Co-op locations in Hereford will remain open as usual throughout the holiday weekend.

In addition to supermarkets, many pubs across the UK will be open during the Easter weekend, providing a perfect opportunity for socializing. Wetherspoons, one of the largest pub chains, will have extended hours, operating from 8am to 12am on Good Friday, and continuing with similar hours through Easter Monday. Greene King pubs are also expected to operate normal hours, with Good Friday hours set from 11am to 11pm, and Easter Sunday from 11am to 10:30pm.

For those looking to enjoy a meal out, Toby Carvery and Harvester, which are part of the Greene King chain, will typically be open from 9am to 11pm on Good Friday, adjusting slightly for Easter Sunday with hours from 9am to 10pm.

Meanwhile, in Leicester, the three main shopping centers—Highcross, The Haymarket, and Fosse Park—will be closed on Easter Sunday. On Good Friday, Highcross will be open from 9:30am to 8pm, Haymarket from 7:30am to 7pm, and Fosse Park from 10am to 6pm. These centers will have regular hours on Easter Saturday but will close their doors on Easter Sunday.

As for Morrisons, the supermarket is running a special offer for the Easter weekend where customers can earn double More Card points from April 18 to April 21. Customers will earn 10 points per product purchased, making it an ideal time for shoppers to take advantage of this deal.

Waitrose stores will also be open on Good Friday from 8am to 8pm, with some Little Waitrose stores extending their hours until 10pm. However, all Waitrose locations will be closed on Easter Sunday, with most reopening on Easter Monday at 8am and closing at 6pm.

For those wanting to order groceries online, Waitrose is accepting orders for delivery until April 19, allowing customers to stock up on essentials from the comfort of their homes. They are also running promotions on various Easter food items, including discounts on Easter eggs and special offers on wine.

With the Easter weekend being a time for family gatherings and celebrations, it’s essential to be aware of the varying opening hours to avoid any inconvenience. Shoppers are encouraged to check the specific hours of their local stores and pubs to ensure a smooth experience during this busy holiday period.

In summary, as the Easter weekend approaches, remember that many supermarkets will have adjusted hours, particularly on Easter Sunday when several will be closed. Planning ahead can help ensure that you have all the essentials for your holiday celebrations, whether that’s a family meal or a quiet evening at home with a glass of wine.
