Easter Weather Forecast: Sun In Brandenburg, Rain In NRW

Brandenburg enjoys warm temperatures while NRW braces for cooler, rainy conditions over the holiday weekend.

As Easter approaches, the weather forecast for Germany reveals a mix of conditions, with varying temperatures and chances of rain across different regions. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), Brandenburger residents can expect unusually high temperatures leading up to the holiday weekend, while those in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) should prepare for more subdued conditions.

On Gründonnerstag, April 17, 2025, Brandenburg will bask in sunshine, with temperatures reaching around 22 degrees Celsius. However, the eastern parts of the state and the capital may experience even warmer highs between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius. This pleasant weather is expected to transition into a more unsettled pattern as the Easter weekend approaches.

In contrast, NRW's forecast is less optimistic. As of April 16, 2025, the DWD predicts thick clouds and showers for Karfreitag, April 18, with temperatures peaking at just 13 degrees Celsius. For Samstag, April 19, conditions won’t improve much, with maximum temperatures only reaching 16 degrees Celsius. Easter Sunday, April 20, and Easter Monday, April 21, will see a slight rise in temperatures, but the likelihood of rain will remain high.

Across Germany, Gründonnerstag will showcase significant temperature disparities. In the western and central parts, highs will range from 8 to 18 degrees Celsius, while the eastern regions may enjoy summer-like warmth of 16 to 28 degrees Celsius. The DWD warns that the northern areas may experience initial showers, while the southern and western regions could see isolated thunderstorms. Heavy rain and gusty winds of up to 70 kilometers per hour, along with small hail, are also possible.

As the holiday weekend progresses, the summery mood will start to wane. On Karfreitag, the weather will become predominantly cloudy, with rain expected in some areas. Temperatures will fall between 14 and 24 degrees Celsius. Easter Sunday will bring a mixed bag of weather, with temperatures in the west rising to a mild 17 to 23 degrees Celsius, interspersed with dry spells and the potential for showers and thunderstorms.

Travelers should be aware that the Deutsche Bahn anticipates a significant influx of passengers on Gründonnerstag and Karfreitag. The railway company expects the busiest routes to be between major cities like Berlin and Hamburg, and Berlin and Munich. Return traffic is likely to ramp up on Ostermontag. However, construction work will impact some long-distance trains, particularly those between Berlin and Munich, which will be rerouted through Würzburg, adding approximately 1.5 hours to the journey. Similarly, trains in the Ruhr area between Dortmund and Essen will experience delays of around 20 minutes due to ongoing upgrades to the Rhine-Ruhr-Express. The Hannover-Bremen route will be closed for repairs from April 7 to April 27, 2025.

Despite the mixed weather forecast, there is some good news for consumers. The Federal Association of Eggs has announced that there is an ample supply of eggs in the market, easing concerns over potential shortages. Hans-Peter Goldnick, the association's president, confirmed that the young hens introduced to farms at the beginning of the year are now laying eggs, although some sorting shortages may still occur.

As families prepare for Easter celebrations, the weather is sure to play a significant role in their plans. While some regions may enjoy warmer temperatures and sunshine, others will need to brace for showers and cooler conditions. The unpredictability of the weather adds an element of excitement to the holiday weekend, as many will be eager to take advantage of any dry spells for outdoor activities.

In summary, the weather in Germany this Easter will be a tale of two forecasts: sunny and warm in Brandenburg, and cool and rainy in NRW. As the holiday approaches, residents and travelers alike will need to stay updated on the latest weather reports to make the most of their Easter plans.
