Yaroslavl, Yekaterinburg, and Krasnodar prepare for festive celebrations on April 20.

As Orthodox Christians prepare to celebrate Easter, the city of Yaroslavl is gearing up for a series of festive services across its numerous churches. On the night of April 20, 2025, the faithful will gather in 37 churches for midnight services, marking the resurrection of Christ with solemnity and joy.

The Dormition Cathedral will host a midnight office, a procession, Easter Matins, and the Divine Liturgy starting at 23:30 on the night of the Resurrection. A late liturgy is scheduled for 09:00 the following day. Similarly, the Feodorovsky Cathedral will hold its services at the same times, ensuring that worshippers have ample opportunity to participate in the celebrations.

Other notable churches participating in the Easter festivities include the Epiphany Church, which will commence its Divine Liturgy at midnight, and the Krestobogorodsky Church, which will have services at 23:45, 07:00, and 09:00. The Ascension Church, located at 44 Svoboda Street, will begin its midnight office and procession at 22:30, with the Divine Liturgy following shortly thereafter.

For those attending services at the Ascension-Blagoveshchensky Church, the midnight office and procession will also take place at 00:00. Meanwhile, the Sretenskaya Church will hold its services at 23:45, and the Leontievskaya Church will have its Divine Liturgy at 23:30.

Other churches, such as the Mikhailo-Arkhangelsk Church, the Church of Nikita the Martyr, and the Church of Nicholas Mokry, will also participate in the midnight celebrations, each with their unique schedules. The Church of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa in Kalashnaya Sloboda will host its services at 23:30, while the Church of Dmitry Solunsky will begin at midnight.

In addition to the celebrations in Yaroslavl, the city of Yekaterinburg will also hold significant Easter events. On the same day, April 20, at 16:00, the Great Easter Vespers will commence at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. This will be followed by a city-wide festive Easter procession from the cathedral to the Church-Monument on the Blood, led by Metropolitan Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Evgeny.

The procession will feature the Holy Fire, banners, and icons, making its way along the streets of Yekaterinburg, with young drummers from the Brotherhood of Orthodox Pathfinders marching at the front. This vibrant display of faith and community spirit is expected to draw a large crowd.

Meanwhile, in Krasnodar, the Holy Catherine Cathedral will be led by Metropolitan Ekaterinodar and Kuban Vasily, starting its service at 23:00. A midnight procession is also planned, coinciding with the arrival of the Holy Fire from Jerusalem, which will be delivered to the regional center in time for the Easter celebrations.

In addition to the midnight services, all major churches in Krasnodar will hold morning services on Easter Sunday, ensuring that the celebrations extend beyond the night. The main church of Kuban will broadcast its service on local television channels, providing an opportunity for those unable to attend in person to join in the festivities from home.

Public order and fire safety will be prioritized across all churches in Krasnodar, with local authorities ensuring a safe environment for worshippers. The city will also extend public transport services on the night of April 20, allowing residents to travel to various churches for the celebrations.

In total, over 600 churches in the Kuban region will hold festive services, with separate areas designated for parishioners to consecrate Easter treats, a cherished tradition among the faithful.

As the date approaches, preparations are in full swing in each church, with unique programs planned to celebrate the joyous occasion. For instance, the Panteleimonovsky Church will offer a series of services starting early on Great Saturday, including confession, Vespers, and the blessing of Easter cakes, culminating in a midnight office and procession.

Similarly, the Spassky Church will host a range of events, including the blessing of Easter cakes and a midnight office. The Uspensky Cathedral will also follow suit, with a series of services leading into Easter Sunday.

The Sretensky Church and Vvedensky Church have also outlined comprehensive programs to engage their congregations, ensuring that the spirit of Easter is felt throughout the community.

As Orthodox Christians across Russia prepare for this sacred holiday, the upcoming Easter celebrations promise to be a time of reflection, community, and joy. The merging of tradition with contemporary practices highlights the enduring significance of Easter in the lives of believers, as they gather to celebrate the resurrection of Christ and the hope it brings.

In conclusion, the Easter services across Yaroslavl, Yekaterinburg, and Krasnodar reflect a vibrant tapestry of faith and tradition, as communities come together to honor this significant religious observance. With a variety of services planned, the joy of Easter will resonate in the hearts of many, uniting them in celebration and spiritual renewal.
