Easter Egg Prices Drop Ahead Of Holiday Rush

With Easter just a day away, shoppers are finding deals on chocolate eggs across supermarkets.

As Easter approaches, shoppers are on the lookout for the best deals on chocolate eggs, with prices varying widely across supermarkets. Just a day before the holiday, many stores are slashing prices to attract last-minute buyers, making it a prime time to snag some sweet bargains.

In February 2025, the price of Cadbury's Dairy Milk and White Marble Ultimate Easter Egg and the Mini Eggs Inclusions Ultimate Easter Egg shocked consumers at £15.50 each at Sainsbury's. However, after two months of slow sales, a recent visit to a Sainsbury's store in Portsmouth on April 18 revealed a price drop to £11.75, having previously been marked down from £12.50. This significant markdown reflects the challenges faced by retailers in moving high-priced Easter products.

Many shoppers expressed their disbelief and outrage at the original prices. One reader commented, "That is disgusting," while another said, "That's definitely not worth 15.00," and a third added, "Slap the word 'ultimate' on the packaging and you can charge an extra tenner," as reported by Plymouth Live.

A spokesperson from Mondelēz International, the company behind Cadbury products, explained the reasoning behind the price hikes: "We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face and raising prices is a last resort for our business. However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and dairy, which are widely used in our products, costing far more than they have done previously. Meanwhile, other costs like energy and transport also remain high. This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges."

In an effort to provide value to customers, Sainsbury's has stated that they offer a range of Easter products at various price points, with some chocolate eggs starting as low as £1.50. Cadbury's Milk and White Marble Ultimate Easter Egg, for instance, is a luxurious 380g package featuring a marbled chocolate egg and an assortment of individually wrapped chocolate bars. The Mini Eggs Inclusions Ultimate Easter Egg, another premium option, boasts a milk chocolate egg adorned with sugar-coated sweets and a bag of milk chocolate eggs.

For those seeking more affordable options, the Cadbury Mini Eggs Chocolate Easter Egg weighs in at 193g and is priced at just £4. There's also the XL variant, which costs £6, and the smaller Dairy Milk Giant Buttons Easter egg, available for only £1.75. As the holiday draws near, consumers are eager to find the best deals on their favorite treats.

With Easter just one day away from April 19, 2025, shoppers are scrambling to find the best prices on chocolate eggs. The Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles Egg, weighing 96g, is currently available for just 99p at Heron Foods, significantly cheaper than Morrisons, which sells it for £1.75. Similarly, the Cadbury Freddo egg, also 96g, is priced at 99p at Heron Foods.

The Cadbury Mini Eggs Chocolate Easter Egg, weighing 232g and including two packets of mini egg treats, is available for £3 at Ocado, making it the cheapest option compared to Aldi's price of £4.95 and Morrisons' £6. However, shoppers should note that Ocado requires a minimum spend of £40 for orders.

Another popular item, the Lindt Milk Chocolate Egg with Gold Bunny (195g), is priced at £5 at Ocado, though this also comes with the £40 minimum spend requirement. For those shopping in-store, Asda offers this luxury egg for £7.98, while Waitrose charges £10.

For white chocolate lovers, the Milkybar Large Egg (180g) is available for £2 at Ocado and £2.32 at Asda. As Easter approaches, these prices illustrate the competitive nature of the chocolate market.

To ensure they are getting the best deals, shoppers are encouraged to utilize comparison websites that help track prices across various retailers. Tools like Google Shopping allow users to search for specific products and compare prices, while Price Spy logs historical pricing from thousands of retailers, including supermarkets.
