Eagles Soar Over Apaches In 10-1 Victory

TJC looks to rebound in upcoming doubleheader against Trinity Valley after mixed results

TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The TJC Apaches and the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles faced off for the third time this season on Wednesday afternoon at Mike Carter Field in Tyler. In a decisive matchup, the Eagles took control early and never looked back, defeating the Apaches 10-1. This loss marked a challenging moment for TJC, who struggled to find their offensive rhythm throughout the game.

Despite the setback against NTCC, the Apaches had previously shown their strength in the doubleheader against Kilgore earlier in the day. Gilmer’s Sarah Philips was the winning pitcher for TJC in that matchup, leading her team to an 8-5 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. Philips pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four batters. Her performance improved her season record to 12-2, with a 3.72 ERA and a total of 50 strikeouts.

In the first game of the doubleheader against Kilgore, TJC dominated with an 8-0 win. Piper Morton (West Rusk) shone in that game, hitting a home run and a double, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Payton Bray (Canton) also contributed with a hit, a run, and a stolen base. The Apaches showcased their offensive capabilities, which they will need to replicate in their upcoming games.

As for Kilgore, they continue to struggle this season, currently holding a record of 0-12 and sitting at the bottom of the North division standings. Their next challenge will be against Paris in another doubleheader on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Apaches are in third place in Region XIV North with a record of 8-4 and are set to host Trinity Valley for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29, 2025, starting at 1:00 p.m.

The upcoming doubleheader against Trinity Valley is crucial for TJC as they look to bounce back from their loss to NTCC. The Apaches will need to harness the momentum from their earlier victories against Kilgore and channel it into their performance this weekend. Coach and players alike are aware of the importance of these games as they aim to secure a better position in the standings.

As the season progresses, the Apaches will be looking to improve their performance and capitalize on their offensive strengths. With players like Philips and Morton leading the charge, TJC has the potential to make a significant impact in their upcoming games.

The rivalry between TJC and NTCC adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming doubleheader. Both teams will be eager to claim victory, and the stakes are high as they vie for a better position in the league. Fans can expect an intense matchup as the teams prepare to face off once again.

In conclusion, the TJC Apaches are gearing up for a pivotal weekend as they look to rebound from their recent loss against NTCC and continue to build on their successes from earlier in the day against Kilgore. With their sights set on securing a playoff spot, every game counts, and the Apaches are ready to rise to the challenge.
