The Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing the employability of the unemployed through targeted training programs. This initiative, which began on March 26, 2025, includes a variety of training options focusing on digital skills, green skills, and financial literacy. A significant aspect of this program is its alignment with the National Recovery and Resilience Plan "Greece 2.0," supported by the European Union's NextGenerationEU funding.
As part of this initiative, DYPA has started the selection process for training programs that will be available to the unemployed registered in the new Continuing Vocational Training program. These programs will be updated weekly and can be accessed through the PS voucher system and the DYPA website. The aim is to provide a comprehensive list of training opportunities tailored to various educational backgrounds, including those with compulsory, secondary, and tertiary education qualifications.
DYPA's latest training action is designed to benefit approximately 50,000 unemployed individuals, with a focus on connecting training to labor market needs. Each participant will undergo a theoretical training program lasting a total of 200 hours. Upon completion, they will take certification exams conducted by independent entities. Successful candidates will receive a voucher of up to 1,000 euros, calculated at a rate of 5 euros per hour of training.
In addition to the general training programs, a specialized cooking training initiative has also been launched in Lamia. This subsidized program, which is a collaboration with local stakeholders, aims to equip participants with essential culinary skills necessary for employment in the restaurant industry. The cooking program spans 250 hours and is designed to ensure that trainees can effectively prepare and serve meals, manage kitchen equipment, and adhere to food safety and hygiene standards.
The cooking training program is set to train 20 unemployed individuals aged 18-60, all of whom are residents of the Municipalities in the Prefecture of Fthiotida and have at least completed compulsory education. The theoretical portion of the training will take place in a specially designed classroom, while practical training will occur in the kitchen facilities of the Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida. Participants in this program will receive an educational allowance of 2.50 euros per hour of training, along with health insurance coverage throughout the training period.
Upon successful completion of the cooking program, participants will receive a Vocational Training Certificate from the KDBM of Lamia under DYPA. This initiative reflects DYPA's commitment to enhancing the skills of the workforce and improving job prospects for the unemployed.
Both training programs underscore the importance of aligning education with current labor market demands. By focusing on practical skills and providing financial support, DYPA aims to facilitate the rapid reintegration of the unemployed into the workforce. The ongoing evaluation of training programs will ensure that they meet the needs of the job market, and updates will be provided regularly to keep participants informed about new opportunities.
As the labor market continues to evolve, initiatives like those offered by DYPA are crucial in preparing individuals for the challenges of modern employment. With a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, these programs are designed to empower the unemployed and enhance their employability in a competitive job market.
