Dubai Unveils Major Road Development Project

Al Qudra Road upgrades aim to reduce travel time and boost economic efficiency for residents and visitors.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the awarding of a significant contract for the development of major intersections along Al Qudra Road, which stretches from its junction with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road, and culminating at Emirates Road. The total estimated cost of this project is around 798 million dirhams.

This extensive upgrade includes the construction of bridges extending over 2,700 meters and the expansion of the existing 11.6-kilometer road. Officials estimate the enhancements will significantly boost the street's capacity, reducing travel time dramatically from 9.4 minutes to just 2.8 minutes.

Director-General and Chairman of RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, emphasized the project's importance for reinforcing the vertical (east-west) road networks. He stated, “The development of Al Qudra Road is one of RTA's key projects aimed at enhancing traffic intersections and facilitating growth and movement across major development areas.”

The project is set to serve many residential and developmental regions, which are expected to house and attract around 400,000 residents and visitors. Notably, it will benefit major areas including Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Akoya, and Damac Hills, among others.

Al Tayer elaborated on the anticipated benefits, noting, “This project will raise capacity and efficiency for traffic at strategic intersections, help diminish traffic congestion, and increase transit speeds between different regions. It will also lead to smoother traffic flow on Al Qudra Road heading toward Emirates Road, reaching Al Qudra City and vice versa, thereby enhancing road safety and supporting urban growth and economic movement.”

RTA is also working on the subsequent phase of development, which includes the establishment of a new road spanning 4.8 kilometers on the southern side of the developers' area. This will connect with Emirates Road to improve access and egress to these development zones and increase the number of lanes along both sides of Emirates Road to bolster connectivity with regional development projects.

Overall, the Al Qudra Road upgrade is expected to make significant contributions to Dubai's infrastructure, improving transport efficiency and supporting the growing demands of its population and economy.
