Dubai Unveils Ambitious Plans For Ultra-Slim Skyscraper

The Muraba Veil will redefine Dubai's skyline with its record-breaking height and distinctive design

Dubai is gearing up for yet another architectural marvel, the Muraba Veil, which promises to reshape the city's iconic skyline. Towering at 1,247 feet, this ultra-slim skyscraper will not only hold the title of being taller than the renowned Shard building in London, but it is also set to be the second skinniest skyscraper globally, measuring only 74 feet across. This ambitious project is the brainchild of Muraba, a Dubai-based developer, and the world-renowned architectural firm RCR Arquitectes, which has previously won the prestigious Pritzker Prize.

The unique design of the Muraba Veil has garnered attention not just for its height but for its unusual proportions. With just 22.5 meters wide, the 73-story building will house 131 luxury residences ranging from two to five bedrooms. Each apartment will occupy the entire floor, providing residents with unobstructed views of the sprawling cityscape on both sides, thanks to its narrow design. The apartments are expected to come with hefty price tags, with estimates starting around £3.8 million, equivalent to approximately 18 million dirhams.

Muraba Veil will be more than just residential space. The developers have envisioned additional amenities to cater to the upscale lifestyle of its future inhabitants. These include high-end features like private cinemas, art galleries, relaxing spas, and even restaurants. Notably, the designers have drawn inspiration from traditional Arabian architecture, incorporating concepts such as inner courtyards and green spaces, including palm trees and lush vines, which aim to bring elements of nature and tranquility to the urban environment.

One of the standout aspects of the skyscraper is the innovative “veil” made from porous stainless steel mesh, which wraps around the structure. This important design detail is not merely for aesthetics; its function is to regulate light and improve energy efficiency, making the building more sustainable. The mesh also enhances natural ventilation and privacy for residents, marrying modern architectural techniques with traditional design principles.

Construction of the Muraba Veil is slated for completion by December 2028, which will mark another addition to Dubai's roster of extraordinary high-rises. The Emirate is known for having the fourth-highest number of skyscrapers globally, boasting architectural wonders like the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building worldwide, and the recently completed Jeddah Tower, which aims to be even taller.

Global stakeholders have shown incredible interest surrounding the development of the Muraba Veil. Muraba's founding partner has emphasized the importance of ensuring their buildings resonate with the local ecosystem and culture. Rafael Aranda from RCR Arquitectes stated, "We are passionate about ensuring our buildings are responsive to the place, and belonging to the site and the native landscapes where they are situated. They must communicate with nature and be infused with the atmosphere of the local culture." This philosophy highlights the commitment to sustainability and cultural integration within their architectural practices.

Overall, the Muraba Veil is set to not only serve as luxurious living spaces for the affluent but also as a standout landmark on Dubai's architectural scene. Its innovative design, enormous height, and environmentally considerate aspects position it as another bold claim to fame for the city as it continues to push boundaries with urban life.
