Dubai Police is gearing up to unveil a new fleet of patrol vehicles and cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies at the upcoming Global Police Summit, scheduled for May 13 to May 15, 2025. This initiative aims to provide a glimpse into the future of law enforcement, showcasing advanced technologies designed to enhance police operations.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Major General Dr. Saleh Rashid Al Hamrani, a senior official from the General Department of Excellence and Leadership at Dubai Police, emphasized the significance of the summit in demonstrating how new technologies can bolster police capabilities and offer more effective solutions in the fight against crime. "This year, we take pride in showcasing how new technologies enhance our policing capabilities and provide more effective solutions in combating crime," he stated.
The Global Police Summit is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors, including more than 130 global law enforcement leaders and 300 experts from around the world. Dr. Al Hamrani highlighted the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in supporting Dubai Police's crime-fighting efforts across various sectors. "Artificial intelligence can significantly assist law enforcement in managing and combating crime. Governing AI through legal frameworks and advanced technologies is essential for ensuring its successful application in police work," he explained.
He also underscored the importance of AI in addressing the rising tide of cybercrime as society increasingly shifts towards a digital lifestyle. "As crimes evolve in the digital realm, AI solutions are crucial for detecting and preventing these crimes," he noted, adding that Dubai Police plans to share global best practices and technological innovations with law enforcement agencies worldwide during the summit.
In discussing the summit's focus on cybersecurity, Dr. Al Hamrani remarked that electronic crimes represent an escalating challenge. "In today’s world, everyone is digitally connected, and the scope of digital crimes is vast. At the summit, we will present diverse strategies and solutions from around the globe and exchange insights from various cultures and regions," he stated.
He further mentioned that Dubai Police's contributions at the summit will not be limited to technological innovations alone but will also highlight practical applications of these solutions. "We are utilizing advanced technologies, such as biometrics and deepfake detection, to tackle emerging threats. Our work in these areas will be highlighted, providing real-world examples of how these tools are effectively used to solve crimes and apprehend criminals," he added.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Rashid Al Ghafri, Deputy Director of the General Department of Forensic Evidence and Criminal Science, spoke about the importance of collaboration at the summit, stating, "The Global Police Summit provides a unique opportunity for law enforcement agencies, private sector innovators, and academic circles to collaborate. It is a platform for learning from global best practices, exchanging knowledge, and exploring new technologies that will ultimately enhance the safety and security of our communities."
The summit, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, is set to be a pivotal event for law enforcement professionals worldwide. It will take place at the Dubai World Trade Center, with a strong focus on redefining policing standards through innovation and collaboration.
Last year, discussions at the Global Police Summit revolved around Dubai Police's plans to deploy robotic dogs in high-risk situations. Currently, the K9 unit in Dubai, featuring German Shepherds and other breeds, has participated in over 3,000 operations in just 2023. These innovations, alongside AI-based solutions such as rapid autopsy technologies, continue to demonstrate Dubai Police's commitment to staying at the forefront of policing advancements.
As part of its strategic focus, Dubai Police employs AI to resolve crimes more swiftly. For instance, they have reduced the time required to solve crimes to just 10 days, compared to two months in Germany, 35 days in the United States, and 180 days in France. Dr. Al Hamrani stated, "Our goal is to leverage AI technologies to expedite investigations and enhance our overall efficiency."
In a related development, the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) recently announced the launch of two new features powered by artificial intelligence for its "iVestor" application, aimed at enhancing investor experience. These features, which include smart disclosures and interactive financial summaries, were unveiled during the third edition of the Regional Investor Relations Society (Middle East and North Africa) conference held on May 6 and 7, 2025, in Jumeirah, Dubai.
The new features are part of a comprehensive upgrade to the app, which now allows investors to trade DFM shares directly through the application with ease. The smart disclosure feature reviews lengthy company data and announcements, highlighting key points in a concise manner for easier understanding. Meanwhile, the interactive financial summary provides a quick overview of company performance, focusing on crucial financial indicators such as revenues, profits, and earnings per share.
According to Hamed Ali, CEO of DFM and Nasdaq Dubai, this step aims to support investors in making informed decisions more quickly by simplifying the presentation of financial statements. "Global markets are undergoing a remarkable transformation towards providing easier and more seamless interactive investment experiences. At DFM, we focus on improving access to information as part of our comprehensive efforts to reduce any barriers to participation while supporting a more aware and engaged investor base," he said.
This update follows the DFM's launch of the upgraded "iVestor" application in 2024, transitioning it from a profit distribution-focused tool to a comprehensive investment platform. The app now allows users to subscribe to initial public offerings, access private placement offerings via the "Arena" platform, manage portfolios, transfer funds, and track market movements. The "iVestor" app has quickly established itself as a key access point for capital markets in Dubai, boasting over 240,000 users from more than 100 different nationalities.
The Dubai Financial Market, established as an independent public institution, is a secondary market for trading securities issued by public companies and bonds issued by the federal government or local governments and public institutions. DFM began operations on March 26, 2000, and after its initial public offering in November 2006, offering 1.6 billion shares representing 20% of its capital of 8 billion dirhams, it became a public company and was listed on March 7, 2007. The Dubai government holds 80% of the company's shares after the IPO, represented by Borse Dubai Limited.
