Dubai Gears Up For Joyful Eid Al-Fitr Celebrations

With public holidays and festive events planned, the city prepares to embrace unity and generosity.

As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, Dubai is preparing for the vibrant celebration of Eid al-Fitr, an occasion marked by gratitude, generosity, and unity. This year, Eid al-Fitr is anticipated to be observed on either March 30 or March 31, 2025, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. The UAE's moon-sighting committee will convene on the evening of March 29 to confirm the date.

In the lead-up to this festive time, the UAE government has announced a minimum of three days of public leave for Eid al-Fitr, with public sector employees enjoying a break from March 30 to April 1, and an additional day off on April 2. Private sector workers will receive the same holiday benefits, allowing the entire nation to come together in celebration.

Across Dubai, preparations are underway to welcome worshippers for the Eid al-Fitr prayers, which will be held at hundreds of mosques and open prayer grounds throughout the emirates. In Dubai, prayers are set to commence at 6:20 AM, while Abu Dhabi will start at 6:22 AM, and Sharjah and Ajman at 6:19 AM. These timings remain unchanged for both potential Eid days.

As the city gears up for the festivities, a variety of exciting events are planned to mark the occasion. On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, Jumeirah Beach will host a spectacular fireworks display, while Riverland Dubai will feature daily laser shows at 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:30 PM. Families can also look forward to the Eid al-Fitr Parade in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), scheduled from 4 PM to 6 PM, showcasing musicians, ribbon dancers, drummers, and unicyclists.

City Walk will host free entertainment shows featuring Lebanese singer Amanda Maalouf and the Cassette Band around 5 PM on the first three days of the public holiday. Additionally, Souk Madinat Jumeirah will transform into a cultural hotspot, celebrating religious traditions and UAE heritage with local delicacies.

For Filipino Muslims in the UAE, Eid al-Fitr is a momentous occasion that signifies the end of Ramadan. Zahir Tapodoc Luna, president of the Philippine Bangsamoro Basketball League, emphasized that this day is one of joy and gratitude, where communal prayers, unity, and charity are celebrated among family, friends, and the wider Islamic community. He stated, "Eid al-Fitr is a time of joy and gratitude, celebrating the successful completion of a month of fasting, self-discipline, and spiritual growth."

Luna also highlighted the significance of attending communal prayers at the mosque, while others may choose to pray at home. MJ Maria Uy Lami-in, a Cebuana businesswoman, remarked that the celebration of Eid is more than just a festive occasion; it serves as a profound reminder of the core values instilled during Ramadan, such as self-discipline and compassion.

Architect Abdulrahman Agao, who has lived in the UAE since 2002, expressed the excitement of preparing for Eid, noting that families wear their best attire and gather for prayers. He pointed out that a vital aspect of the celebration is the giving of Zakat Al-Fitr, a form of charity that ensures those in need can partake in the joys of Eid. Agao explained, "Importante sa ating mga Muslim at eto ay mandatory na magbigay tayo ng Zakat al-Fitr at gawin natin eto bago ang dasal sa Eid."

As Ramadan concludes, the anticipation for Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, also grows. This sacred night is considered one of the most spiritually significant moments in Islam, where many deepen their devotion by intensifying acts of worship. Agao described it as a time for seeking closeness to Allah and asking for forgiveness and guidance for the coming year.

In Abu Dhabi, the Crown Prince has approved a housing benefits package worth AED 6.75 billion, benefiting 4,356 Emirati citizens ahead of Eid al-Fitr. This package includes housing loans, land grants, and exemptions from housing loan repayments, reflecting the leadership’s commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of Emirati families.

As Dubai bids farewell to Ramadan, the city welcomes Eid al-Fitr with open arms, filling the air with joy, unity, and gratitude. With an array of exciting events and a vibrant atmosphere, Eid al-Fitr in Dubai promises to be a truly unforgettable experience for residents and visitors alike.
