Dubai Completes Expansion Of Al Rowaiyah Truck Rest Stop

New facilities and increased capacity aim to improve road safety and driver services

Dubai, 28th February 2025 – Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the expansion of the Al Rowaiyah Truck Rest Stop, which significantly boosts its truck parking capacity from 40 to 175 slots, representing a remarkable 338% growth. This expansion aligns with RTA's commitment to enhancing land freight operations, providing improved services for heavy vehicle drivers, and increasing road safety throughout Dubai.

The Al Rowaiyah Truck Rest Stop is strategically located near key highways, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, ensuring seamless access for truck drivers. This facility is part of RTA's broader network of rest stops, providing comprehensive and well-equipped resting environments for those operating heavy vehicles.

A total of 175 parking slots have been added, allowing for easier access and efficient management of truck traffic. Ahmed Al Khzaimy, the Director of Traffic at the Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating: "The expansion of Al Rowaiyah Truck Rest Stop is part of RTA’s strategy to improve heavy vehicle infrastructure and service quality for truck drivers. The parking spaces have been expanded to the highest standards, ensuring ease, smooth traffic flow, and safety—particularly for drivers coming from Ras Al Khor Road or travelling from Emirates Road toward Sharjah."

Modern facilities now available at the rest stop include prayer rooms, restrooms, diesel refueling stations, and maintenance workshops for tire replacement. These amenities are necessary for supporting land transport operations comprehensively and significantly improving the working conditions of truck drivers.

Al Khzaimy noted the positive impact of such facilities on road safety: "Rest stops play a key role in enhancing road safety, reducing truck-related accidents, improving traffic flow during truck movement restriction periods, and minimising random truck parking on main roads." The expansion of the Al Rowaiyah Truck Rest Stop ensures these benefits are obtained, aiding not only the drivers but also enhancing safety for all road users.

With the new configurations, the rest stop now has sufficient capacity to handle truck movement, particularly during times of restrictions on major roads like Emirates Road, where traffic control is often challenging. This advance will help to effectively streamline truck movement, contributing to smoother traffic flow.

The successful completion of this project showcases RTA's continued commitment to developing projects aimed at enhancing Dubai's road network and ensuring the highest levels of safety and seamless traffic flow for all road users. Al Khzaimy concluded, stating: "RTA continues to implement development projects aimed at enhancing Dubai’s Road network and ensuring the highest levels of safety and smooth traffic flow for road users. All these efforts support RTA’s vision of being ‘The World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility.'"

This expansion not only serves the logistical needs of the region but reflects Dubai’s dedication to creating functional, safe spaces for its heavy vehicle operators, positioning the city as a key player in global logistics and transport.
