Drowning Accident Claims Two Young Lives In Quang Binh

Community mourns as local teenagers slip and drown at Tró creek on February 22.

A tragic drowning incident occurred on February 22 in Quang Binh province, leaving two families in mourning. According to local authorities, two teenagers lost their lives after slipping and being swept away by currents at Tró creek.

Reports indicate the incident transpired around 3 PM, when four young men from Quang Tho and Quang Thuan wards decided to visit the creek located in Tan Son hamlet, Quang Son commune of Ba Don Town. The victims have been identified as N.T.G.H. (17 years old) from Quang Tho and N.T.H. (21 years old) from Quang Thuan, both of whom lived within the vicinity.

Eyewitnesses stated the group was playing near the water before the tragedy struck. G.H. and H. lost their footing and fell, prompting immediate alarm from their friends. The two others rushed back to report the incident to their families and local authorities.

Community members and local officials quickly organized search efforts upon receiving the news. Their swift actions led to the recovery of the bodies not long after the incident. The victims’ families were devastated but expressed gratitude for the community's response during such a difficult time. The remains of both teenagers were returned to their families, allowing them to follow local customs for the funerals.

Interestingly, N.T.H., one of the victims, had just recently completed military service and returned home. This added to the depth of the tragedy, as hopes were high for his post-service life. The community has been left to grapple with the loss of two young individuals whose lives abruptly ended under such unfortunate circumstances.

The authorities reiterated the importance of water safety awareness, especially for young people engaging in recreational activities near water bodies. Tragic events like this highlight the risks inherent to seemingly harmless outings.

This drowning incident has drawn the attention of the local government, and they are seeking ways to promote safety and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. Providing educational resources on water safety is one initiative being discussed by officials.

The community plans to hold memorial services for the two victims, reflecting the shared sorrow and support as they come together to honor their memory. Such gatherings can serve not only as tributes to the young lives lost but also as poignant reminders of the need for vigilance around natural water sites.
