Dresden Prepares For Vibrant Tolerade 2025 Parade

A day of diverse events highlights community spirit and cultural diversity in the city.

Dresden is set to be a vibrant hub of activity on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as various events cater to diverse interests, culminating in the much-anticipated "Tolerade 2025" parade. This colorful celebration aims to promote solidarity, tolerance, and cultural diversity, drawing an expected crowd of around 15,000 participants.

The day kicks off at 9:30 AM with the 3rd Josephinen Pokecup, where up to 350 Pokémon fans will gather at the Dresden City Hall. This tournament is one of the largest Pokémon and Lorcana card competitions in Germany, allowing children from local schools to showcase their skills in a fun and engaging environment.

From 2 PM to 6 PM, the Johannstädt Practical Training and Job Fair will take place at the JohannStadthalle, located at Holbeinstraße 68, 01307 Dresden. Approximately 40 local companies and institutions will present their internship and apprenticeship opportunities. The event will be complemented by informative talks from the Employment Agency and the city, providing valuable insights for young job seekers.

Simultaneously, the Bönischplatzfest will transform the Bönischplatz into a lively festival area starting at 2 PM. This event, organized by the Johannstadt community association, will feature various initiatives and activities, fostering community spirit and engagement.

May 10 also marks the Day of Urban Development Funding, where residents can learn about the city’s development plans. Information and dialogue sessions will be held at the "Grüner Bogen" between Prager Straße and Reitbahnstraße, focusing on improving the southern city center.

As the afternoon unfolds, the "Tolerade 2025" will commence at 2 PM from Bahnhof Neustadt, leading participants over the Marienbrücke into the Altstadt. The parade, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, will feature a procession of colorful trucks and lively music, emphasizing themes of tolerance, equality, and cultural freedom. The demonstrators are expected to dance and celebrate their values, creating a festive atmosphere in the city.

Organized by the Tolerave association, the Tolerade has grown into a significant event in Dresden, with participation from around 40 initiatives, associations, and music groups from the region. The route will pass several key locations, including the Landtag, Postplatz, and Cockerwiese, where an additional rally is planned from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM. This rally will highlight various initiatives and their missions, reinforcing the parade's message against discrimination.

Participants should be prepared for traffic disruptions as the parade is expected to cause significant delays in city traffic, particularly along the route. The city has advised commuters to avoid the area or allow extra time for their journeys. Public transport services will also be affected, with potential delays and route changes. The city calls for understanding from residents and visitors alike during this vibrant celebration of diversity.

In addition to the Tolerade, the Robotron canteen will host the "All 4/1 Hip-Hop Festival" throughout the weekend, featuring live performances from renowned rap artists such as Wannanelly, Primo FANIO, Maddow, and Donsky. The festival, which started on Friday, May 9, includes workshops, art activities, and DJ sets, making it a must-visit for hip-hop enthusiasts.

As evening approaches, the jg. theater junge generation will present "ECHO | ECHO – Thinking in Ghosts & Shadows" at 6 PM, showcasing a unique performance as part of the 10th Saxon Puppet Theater Meeting, in collaboration with the Centre for the Less Good Idea and the State Art Collections of Dresden.

At 7:30 PM, concertgoers can enjoy a symphony concert featuring Edvard Grieg's "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra a-moll op. 16" and Henryk Górecki's "Symphony No. 3: Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" for soprano and orchestra. This concert, held at the Dresden Kulturpalast, commemorates the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and will also be performed in Wrocław.

For sports enthusiasts, the HVS-Landskron-Pokal final matches of the handball season 2024/2025 will take place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 2 PM in the BallsportARENA, located at Weißeritzstraße 4, 01067 Dresden. The women's match featuring MSV Dresden against Rotation Weißenborn promises to be an exciting conclusion to the season.
