Dragon Surges Past 50 Crore Mark At Box Office

Audience reception propels Pradeep Ranganathan's latest film to impressive heights within just three days.

Pradeep Ranganathan’s film Dragon is making waves at the box office, with its impressive performance leaving the film industry buzzing. Within just three days of its release on February 21, 2025, Dragon has grossed over Rs. 50 crore globally, setting the stage for a potential blockbuster as it aims to cross the coveted Rs. 100 crore milestone.

On its opening weekend, Dragon, ka daily collections showcased exponential growth. On the first day, the film collected Rs. 5.8 crore, followed by Rs. 8.7 crore on day two. The third day saw the box office collection peak with Rs. 10.4 crore, bringing the total for Tamil Nadu alone to Rs. 24.9 crore. This gradual increase reflected the film's positive reception among audiences, underscored by skyrocketing bookings.

The film, produced by AGS Entertainment and helmed by director Ashwath Marimuthu, narrates the story of the carefree life of a college student grappling with love, academic pressures, and personal failures. The audience response has been overwhelmingly favorable, contributing to the continuous spike in ticket sales.

According to early reports, Dragon amassed approximately Rs. 28 crore from its first two days, with Rs. 14.45 crore from Tamil screenings and Rs. 2.85 crore from its Telugu version. Impressively, the movie has already recovered about 49.4% of its reported Rs. 35 crore budget within 48 hours of its release.

On the second day, Saturday, February 22, Dragon earned Rs. 10.8 crore, marking a significant 66% increase from its debut earnings of Rs. 6.5 crore. This surge indicates strong word-of-mouth and positive reviews propelling viewer interest.

The film’s achievements didn’t just stop there; projections suggest it might surpass the Rs. 100 crore mark. Industry analysts believe the film's growth trend, bolstered by strong audience turnout not just locally but also from overseas markets, positions it favorably for significant profits. “Given the current trends, we expect it to achieve the 100 crore milestone soon,” remarked one industry expert.

Beyond pure box office figures, Dragon has already outperformed Ranganathan’s previous film, Love Today, which had total earnings of Rs. 6.61 crore. Dragon earned over 161% more than Love Today’s total lifetime collection within the span of just two days!

While the film is well on its way to financial success, reaching the profit-making zone remains its immediate goal. Reports indicate the film needs to earn at least Rs. 70 crore to secure the hit verdict. Currently, Dragon stands just Rs. 6.2 crore away from the profit zone based on its early weekend earnings.

“The buzz is not only about the movie itself but also about its themes and relatability. The shared struggles of the protagonist resonate with the audience,” said Ranganathan during recent promotional interviews. The film delves deeply enough to evoke emotional engagement, making it much more than just another comedy-drama.

The success story of Dragon has cast the spotlight on its leading lady, Anupama Parameswaran, alongside Ranganathan, Mysskin, and Gautham Menon. The film’s music, composed by Leon James, has also contributed to the emotional weight and overall appeal, enhancing the audience experience throughout.

Looking forward, the buzz around Dragon continues to grow. Experts and fans alike are optimistic about its performance and its ability to maintain momentum as the week progresses. Despite challenges such as the widely anticipated India vs Pakistan match, which typically saps attention from other events, Dragon is expected to hold its ground as families venture out to enjoy the film during the weekend.

Overall, Dragon is more than just box office success—it is shaping up to be one of 2025's standout hits and is set to redefine the benchmarks for Tamil cinema this year.
