Doraemon: Nobita's Picture Book World Story Premieres March 7

Aeon Cinema celebrates with exclusive merchandise and events leading up to the premiere.

With great excitement building across Japan, the premiere of the new film "Doraemon: Nobita's Picture Book World Story" is nearly here, set to debut on March 7, 2025. This new adventure marks the 45th anniversary of the beloved series, promising to captivate audiences with its imaginative plot and innovative artistry.

To commemorate the film's release, Aeon Cinema will launch the exclusive "Doraemon Kids Set" starting March 1. This special set, priced at 750 yen (tax included), includes popcorn (either salt or butter-soy flavor) and a soft drink, along with one of six selectable items: three types of medals and three alloy charms. Aeon Cinema will also offer exclusive merchandise related to the film, with sales beginning on March 1 for three items and seven more from the official release date.

Among the items available are the shimmering memo pads, mini double files, and letter sets. On March 7, additional merchandise like acrylic pen stands and canvas badges will hit the shelves, all offered on a limited quantity basis. Items can be purchased even without watching the movie.

Meanwhile, related broadcasts will precede the film’s release, including episodes airing on March 1 and 8. The episodes feature fan favorites like "Continuation Spray" and "Shoot the Doodle," as well as newer stories featuring Jaiko and Keishi Cutter. Notably, these showings will be localized to the Kanto region.

The plot of "Doraemon: Nobita's Picture Book World Story" invites viewers on a thrilling adventure where Nobita and his friends enter the mystical world of art using the secret gadget known as the "Entering Light." They explore the kingdom of Artoria, set against the backdrop of medieval Europe, searching for the elusive gem "Artoria Blue" as they encounter challenges tied to the legend of world destruction.

Director Yukiyo Teramoto emphasizes the film’s unique charm lies not merely in the art’s realism, but rather the cartoonish movements and humor. He reflects on the artistic inspiration from the Taisho and early Showa eras, urging viewers to enjoy the lively animation rather than just the lifelike art. Teramoto remarks, "I want to focus on the animated, exaggerated motions, showcasing what can only be done through animation."

The film’s music, performed by the popular artist Aimyon, sets the tone for the narrative, enhancing the emotional depth of the film. With songs like “Sketch” and “Listening to Your Dreams While I Smile,” the music promises to be as memorable as the adventure itself.

On the international front, excitement is also building. A world premiere event took place earlier this month, on February 23, at The Space Cinema Moderno theater in Rome, Italy, where over 150 families gathered to witness this much-anticipated film. Japanese voice actor Wataru Takagi and Aimyon greeted the audience and shared exuberant interactions, prompting lively applause and standing ovations after the screening. Takagi expressed his amazement at experiencing the enthusiastic reception from the Italian audience, saying, "The joy and excitement from the audience were contagious, making this event unforgettable for me, especially after two decades of voicing Doraemon.”

For attendees, the chance to take part was notable not only for the cultural exchange but also for the more significant milestone of celebrating 45 years of this cherished series. With the vibrant backdrop of the Italian art scene fused with the animated escapade of Nobita and friends, it signifies the cross-border appeal of “Doraemon,” uniting fans from diverse backgrounds.

To add to the festive atmosphere, there will be opening promotions at the world's first Doraemon-themed store, the "Doraemon Future Department Store" set to open at Tokyo Solamachi on March 7. For each purchase of commercial merchandise related to the new film, customers will receive exclusive stickers only available at these outlets.

With so much happening around the film's launch, there’s no shortage of excitement as families anticipate the return of everyone’s favorite robotic cat. All signs point to this film not only celebrating the nostalgia of past adventures but also bringing joy and laughter to new generations of fans.

With the premiere just days away, fans are encouraged to experience the magic of "Doraemon: Nobita's Picture Book World Story," ensuring it will be cherished as part of the delightful legacy this franchise continues to hold.
