Dolj County Police Step Up Traffic Safety Measures

Over 140 fines issued as authorities target reckless driving and alcohol-related offenses

In a significant push for road safety, the Dolj County traffic police have ramped up their efforts in the last 24 hours, conducting several operations aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with traffic laws. Using radar devices, breathalyzers, and drug tests, officers have targeted drivers who violate speed limits or drive under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.

During these operations, the police issued over 140 contravention sanctions, accumulating fines that total approximately 35,000 lei. A notable incident involved a 26-year-old man from Craiova, who was caught driving at a staggering 176 km/h on DN 6. This reckless behavior led to a fine and the suspension of his driving license for 120 days.

But speeding wasn't the only issue; alcohol-related incidents were also a concern. On April 5, 2025, around 13:20, a 21-year-old driver was stopped on Ilie Balaci boulevard after exhibiting signs of intoxication. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.27 mg/l, prompting police to take him to a medical facility for biological samples to determine his blood alcohol concentration. Similarly, a 44-year-old man from Valea Stanciului was found driving on DJ 561 B with a blood alcohol level of 0.86 mg/l. Both individuals are now facing legal consequences as their samples will be submitted to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for further analysis.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) has also been active in addressing public safety, reporting that over 46,600 checks were conducted using the eDAC application within the same 24-hour period. The application is designed to prevent and combat illegal activities, and it proved effective, as 217 perpetrators of crimes were caught in the act. In total, 636 drivers were removed from traffic for posing a potential danger to others.

Out of the 636 drivers removed, 42 were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, while 18 were under the influence of drugs. Additionally, 11 individuals were apprehended for driving without a license, and 514 vehicles were stopped due to safety concerns. Their registration certificates were withdrawn until the necessary safety issues were addressed.

In a broader context, the MAI reported that their forces intervened in 4,061 events, with 2,523 being related to public order and 1,538 to emergencies. This included 863 potential crimes reported by citizens, resulting in the apprehension of 217 individuals committing 227 criminal acts. The police also identified 15 wanted persons and took preventive measures against 61 individuals.

As part of their ongoing commitment to public safety, the MAI mobilized over 3,200 police officers and gendarmes in a national operation dubbed “Blocada.” This initiative aimed to prevent violent acts, drug trafficking, and enhance road safety. During this operation, 424 checkpoints were established, leading to the inspection of 7,038 vehicles and the identification of 10,961 individuals. The police recorded 25 traffic offenses and retained 303 driving licenses, including 20 for alcohol and 129 for excessive speed.

With a total of 10,057 contravention sanctions issued, amounting to approximately 3.94 million lei, the police are making strides in maintaining order and safety on the roads. The operations included nearly 3,000 tests conducted with breathalyzers and drug detection devices, underscoring the authorities' dedication to preventing road accidents and ensuring that drivers adhere to legal standards.

In addition to traffic enforcement, the MAI is actively involved in emergency responses. Within the last 24 hours, there were 1,288 medical assistance missions, 55 fire extinguishing missions, and 6 extrication missions, during which 8 lives were saved. The rapid response of firefighters has been crucial in preventing tragedies.

In the realm of immigration, 196,822 residence permits have been issued for temporary protection, with 84 issued in the last 24 hours. The total occupancy rate of accommodation centers managed by the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) stands at 12.9%. The authorities have also issued 2,659 driving licenses and registered 5,582 vehicles, while 3,992 individuals took the driving test—1,799 for the theoretical part and 2,193 for the practical part.

In summary, the recent actions taken by the Dolj County traffic police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs reflect a robust approach to enhancing public safety and enforcing traffic laws. The combination of technology, proactive policing, and community engagement is essential in reducing accidents and ensuring a safer environment for all road users.
