The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves are currently in a rain delay in Friday’s game at Truist Park. The game will resume at 7:35 p.m. PT/10:35 p.m. ET, barring any other weather setbacks. The game paused after the eighth inning with the Dodgers up 2-1. Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Grant Holmes had a pitchers duel, with Yamamoto pitching six shutout innings and Holmes allowing two runs over six innings of work. The Dodgers scored the first run in the fourth inning on a Will Smith sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. Then, Mookie Betts gave L.A. an insurance run with a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning. The Braves recorded their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning off Yamamoto. He ended up finishing six shutout innings, striking out six and lowering his season ERA to 0.90. Kirby Yates allowed a home run to Matt Olson in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tanner Scott then pitched a scoreless eighth. The game will pick up in the top of the ninth inning. The Dodgers are looking to move to an MLB-best 22-10 on the season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers head out on the road this weekend and immediately have a tough task in front of them with a weekend matchup with the Braves. The Dodgers swept Atlanta at the very start of the 2025 season, but that was in LA and the Braves are playing a lot better now and are always tough at home. Unfortunately, the opening game of the series between these two juggernauts is on pause due to the weather. While the game did start on time, the specter of a massive wave of rain coming through was always there and the hope was that the game could conclude before it got to Atlanta. That is not how things went down and now we are in a rain delay against the Braves with just one inning to go.
At about 9:25 p.m. ET, the game was sent into a rain delay in Atlanta. The Dodgers led 2-1 at the time of the delay after the final out of the eighth. L.A. had opened the scoring in the fourth inning when a Will Smith sacrifice fly scored Mookie Betts. Then in the sixth, Betts pulled a home run to left-center to take a 2-0 lead. The Braves answered back in the bottom of the seventh on a Matt Olson homer. Neither team scored in the eighth, setting up an intriguing final inning. Technically, the game could go in the books as a completed contest, but it's unlikely MLB would go that route in a tight contest between two uber-talented ball clubs.
Dodgers righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto was a star on Friday, going 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out six. Braves starter Grant Holmes struck out nine in his 6.0 innings of work while allowing the two Dodgers runs. The Dodgers entered the night at 21-10, while the Braves are trying to get back into things at 14-16 after a brutal start to the campaign.
The unstoppable Los Angeles Dodgers (21-10) meet the Atlanta Braves (14-16) in Georgia in what appears to be an easy series matchup for the Dodgers. Tonight, the Dodgers will start MLB-leading RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1.06 ERA) opposite Braves RHP Grant Holmes (4.50 ERA). It speaks volumes that the Dodgers are the favorites in Game 1 of the series as the road team — the Braves are struggling badly. With the Atlanta Braves' Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider out of the lineup, the team posted an abysmal .137 batting average to start the 2025 MLB season, and has improved but has failed to crawl out of this hitting rut.
Teoscar Hernández, MLB’s early RBI king (32), is slashing .310/.325/.621 with nine homers and has already racked up 1.3 WAR in just 29 games. Shohei Ohtani, the two-time MVP, owns a .393 OBP and seven long balls while swiping nine bases — an unrelenting table-setter for the L.A. juggernaut. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, with his 1.06 ERA and 11.4 K/9, has given L.A. a true stopper. A crisp splitter makes him lethal the first time he faces Atlanta’s order. Austin Riley leads the club in hits (35) and RBI (20) while posting a sturdy .464 SLG, making him Atlanta’s most dependable run producer.
Marcell Ozuna boasts a .437 OBP and .283 AVG, showing the DH is getting on base and doing damage (five homers) despite limited lineup support. Sean Murphy’s thunderous .633 SLG and seven homers provide the Braves with a needed power surge in the middle innings. The Dodgers look set to take Game 1 today — and with it, the entire Dodgers vs. Braves 2025 regular season series.
As the rain delay continues, fans are left wondering if the game will resume or if MLB will call it in favor of the Dodgers given the circumstances. The Dodgers are looking to solidify their position as one of the best teams in the league, and with the current score and momentum, they seem poised to do just that. The Braves, on the other hand, are eager to capitalize on any opportunity to turn the tide in this matchup.
In the meantime, both teams are preparing for what could be a dramatic finish if the weather allows. The anticipation is palpable as the Dodgers aim to extend their winning record, while the Braves hope to rally back and make a statement on their home turf. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion, and fans are left on the edge of their seats as they wait for the rain to pass.
