Dénia Children's Carnival Moves To New Location

Celebration shifts to Plaza de María Hervás, inviting families to join the fun.

The Dénia Children's Carnival is set to enjoy a new lease of life this year, with organizers announcing significant changes to its location and timing, aimed at increasing accessibility for families. The colorful event will now take place at Plaza de María Hervás, situated on Calle Marqués de Campo, on Friday, February 28, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Originally, the carnival had faced cancellation due to public discontent and logistical challenges. Responding to community feedback, the Dénia City Council has shifted the festivities from its previous venue at Torrecremada, opting instead for the more central Plaza de María Hervás. This change is particularly notable as it not only allows families to attend together but also coincides with the official opening of the new plaza, which has been the subject of some local controversy.

Start time for the carnival festivities will be at 5:30 PM, where children dressed in costumes will receive free snacks for the initial half-hour – creating a joyous atmosphere right from the outset. Following this, residents can expect lively entertainment from DJs alongside specialized children's entertainers, setting the tone for what looks to be merging community spirit with festive fun.

The council emphasized, "this location and schedule allow us to open the celebration to the general public, so the little ones can enjoy the carnival accompanied by family members." Such commitments from the city reflect their dedication to making local events inclusive and engaging for families.

Despite previous plans to host the children's festivities at Torrecremada, which were met with public outcry for their exclusivity—limiting participation strictly to preschoolers and primary students—the adjustments have been well-received by many residents. The decision to relocate the carnival is especially significant, as many families felt disconnected from the original event format.

This refreshing move promises to revive the carnival experience for the children of Dénia and their families, who have faced uncertainties this season. It aims to draw larger crowds and encourage more children to participate festively.

The vibrant colors of costumes, laughter of children, and music filling the air are anticipated to provide a much-needed festive respite within the local community. While the carnival is traditionally enjoyed by children, the enhancements to make the event family-friendly may spark greater participation and enliven the carnival spirit throughout the afternoon.

After correction from the city, the carnival is set to rekindle the joy of community gatherings and cultural celebrations, fostering connections between families and sparking joy among the young. Residents are encouraged to prepare their costumes and bring their families to what promises to be not just another carnival, but also the inauguration of Plaza de María Hervás.
