Disney+ has officially announced the upcoming launch of its animated series, Messi and the Giants, inspired by the renowned Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi.
Set to stream exclusively on Disney+ across Latin America, the series does not yet have a definitive release date. Produced alongside Sony, it aims to capture the hearts of young audiences through its exciting narrative filled with personal growth and adventure. Each episode will run for approximately 22 minutes, delivering messages about teamwork and perseverance through fictional tales rather than Messi's celebrated career.
The story follows Leo, a 12-year-old boy from Argentina who is suddenly transported to the vibrant, alternative planet of Iko. Here, he is faced with the extraordinary challenge of saving his new home from giants.
Messi expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I have always dreamed of being part of a project where I could share the values of sports, values which have been very important throughout my career, with younger generations. Nothing is really impossible with teamwork, perseverance, discipline, and hard work.” His passion for animation shines through as he reveals his excitement to share this series with children globally, hoping to motivate them to chase their own dreams.
Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, reflected on this partnership with Messi. He noted, “The themes of family, friendship, and teamwork will resonate not only with soccer fans but with anyone who enjoys a great story.” This showcases how the series intends to appeal to all children, not just those ardent about soccer.
The animation for Messi and the Giants is being developed by Atlantis Animation, located in the Canary Islands, known for its engaging visual storytelling. The series will be led by executive producer Guy Toubes and directed by Dan Creteur, both of whom will certainly bring their expertise to create captivating content for young viewers.
With its focus on personal growth and teamwork, combined with the universal appeal of animation, Messi and the Giants stands to make it mark as not just entertainment but as an inspiring tool for life lessons among children. Fans eagerly await the series, which promises to be both entertaining and enriching for its audience.
The world of animated storytelling will soon welcome Messi, not just as a football superstar but as a guiding figure for the next generation's growth and imagination.
