The all-new Disney Treasure has officially set sail, and excitement is already rippling through the cruise community. Making its grand debut, the sixth ship to join Disney Cruise Line is promising to take vacationing families on enchanting adventures guided by the brand’s hallmark storytelling. From themed dining experiences to interactive lounges, the Disney Treasure is packed with new features, thanks to the inspiration drawn from Walt Disney’s love of exploration and art.
The christening ceremony was held at Port Canaveral, Florida, and set the stage for this ship, which aims to continue Disney's tradition of blending nostalgia, adventure, and the magic of beloved Disney franchises. But there's more to come; after its initial cruise from Florida, the Treasure will sail to New York City for its special christening celebration on November 19, 2024, where more surprises await.
CEO Bob Iger took to the waves alongside Good Morning America’s co-anchor Michael Strahan, passionately sharing just what makes the Disney Treasure special. “With each new ship, we explore new storytelling avenues,” Iger explained. “People interact with our stories all the time at our theme parks, but unlike those fixed locations, this gives us the chance to reach more people, tell more stories, and create unforgettable experiences.”
Marveling at the ship’s features, Iger noted, “This is the first time we've really extended theme park storytelling onto our ships.” Two of the standout attractions aboard are the Haunted Mansion Parlor and the Plaza de Coco dining experience. The latter, which showcases the delightful world of the Pixar film Coco, immerses guests in the vibrant culture of Santa Cecilia, featuring mouthwatering dishes and live Mariachi entertainment.
For fans of classic Disney, the haunted mansion bar is sure to thrill. It's described as entirely unique—a whimsical spot for adults aged 21 and older to unwind with carefully crafted cocktails inspired by the whimsy and eeriness of the Haunted Mansion attraction. “Our lounge reflects the essence of the story of the captain who went on a disastrous date with his bride-to-be,” Darren McBurney, the Treasure's opening cruise director explained.
Every corner of the Disney Treasure is specially crafted to keep guests engaged. There's plenty of interactivity and excitement bubbling throughout the ship, creating what Iger described as “a kinetic experience.” He said, “It's just so much more dynamic everywhere you go.”
The Treasure's design pulls from numerous collaborations between Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, and Disney Parks, ensuring descendants of Disney’s legendary lore resonate through the ship’s decor and activities. Instead of merely viewing exhibits, passengers on the Treasure will dine with characters and be part of the storytelling adventure.
Among the highlights are the three brand-new venues inspired by Disney classics: the Plaza de Coco, the Scat Cat Lounge, and the Haunted Mansion Parlor. The Scat Cat Lounge promises to bring the 1970 Disney classic The Aristocats to life, serving as both a jazz club and themed hangout with enticing cocktails conducive to evenings of smooth music and good company.
The dining experience at Plaza de Coco is planned as interactive and theatrical. With two unique evenings of sequential dining, guests will delight in elaborate tales of Miguel’s family history, complete with enchanting theatrical performances. Diners can expect delightful dishes, with Abuelita Elena’s Shrimp Diabla and Chorizo Street Croquettes leading the way. The menu showcases traditional flavors twined with innovative twists, making guests feel like they’ve set foot right inside Coco’s vibrant world.
The Haunted Mansion Parlor serves to weave nostalgia and cocktails, bringing guests closer to Disney’s haunted history. Visitors will find themselves enveloped by the artistry inspired by the classic haunted attraction. Original Disney characters intermingle with the lounge’s decor, allowing guests not only to enjoy unique cocktails but also to engage with the fantasy world Disney is famed for.
The ship also reflects another traditional maritime sentiment; honoring the cast members of Disney as its honorary godparents. “With all the engineering and artistry, it's people who truly breathe life and energy to these experiences,” Iger noted, stressing how integral crew members are for every magical moment created on board. This move showcases Disney’s commitment to acknowledging the very people who make their magical experiences possible, which is somewhat refreshing, isn’t it?
For those eager to jump aboard this magical voyage, the Disney Treasure’s maiden seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise is set to begin on December 21, departing from Port Canaveral. With bookings already underway, families planning to enjoy this delightful addition to the Disney Cruise Line will certainly be treated to what Iger promises is more than just another cruise; it’s destined to be another classic chapter from the storied Disney legacy.
So, what can travelers expect on board the Treasure? A heartwarming blend of nostalgia wrapped up with modern innovation, sprinkled with the extraordinary spirit of Walt Disney’s passion for exploration. The Disney Treasure is embracing not just the concept of sea travel, but making it part of the story, one adventure at a time. And doesn’t it sound like the perfect getaway?
For both young and old, this is where Disney magic meets the untamed beauty of the open sea, resulting in experiences packed full of engagement and creativity.
