Dina Pugliese Returns To Breakfast Television With Tim Bolen

After two years away, Pugliese surprises fans as she resumes hosting on BT alongside Bolen.

TORONTO — Dina Pugliese has returned to Citytv’s Breakfast Television (BT), stepping back onto the set after two years away, marking her reunion with the beloved morning show on March 17, 2025. The announcement was filled with excitement as Pugliese revealed herself dressed as the show’s new mascot, the BT morning moose, much to the joy and surprise of her colleagues. "You will find NO ONE more surprised about this news than me! It’s crazy how life works sometimes," Pugliese said during the live announcement. "After two years of rest and recharging, it feels like I’m stepping back... with YOU, our BT viewers. I can’t wait to continue making mornings brighter together!"

Pugliese's return to BT as co-host and co-executive producer is emblematic of her enduring rapport with viewers. Having first joined the show as co-host alongside Kevin Frankish back in 2006, she became synonymous with BT until her departure from the network in February 2023, when she cited burnout as the reason for stepping back. This period of absence, during which she faced personal challenges, allowed Pugliese to rest and recuperate, readying herself for the rigors of morning television.

Joining Pugliese is Tim Bolen, who has also proven himself as a familiar voice on morning television, having hosted Morning Live on CHCH Television for 13 years. Bolen expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter, stating, "For over 35 years, BT has set the benchmark for morning television... I feel truly privileged to add my name alongside them. But the real pinch-me moment? Getting to co-host with the best..." Their chemistry was evident from the start, with Bolen highlighting how it sparked immediately upon their first meeting.

Citytv has also introduced a new studio set as part of their transformation, moving from their former location at Yonge and Dundas, where they had broadcast since 2009. The modernized studio at the Rogers Campus on Bloor St. is equipped to support advanced technology and community engagement, keeping BT at the forefront of morning news programming.

Claire Adams, BT’s executive producer, noted the changing needs of the viewing audience. "More than ever, people are looking for comfort, optimism... and no one delivers... than Dina and Tim," she stated, emphasizing their ability to connect with viewers.

Pugliese’s return resonates deeply, as she reflected on her mental and emotional health during her absence from the show. "When I left, I was so burnt out... I felt like I was disappointing my family and the viewers," she admitted. Her husband’s battle with health issues and her sister’s cancer diagnosis necessitated her time away from the screen. Yet, through the struggle, she found her passion reignited, ready to embrace her role once again.

This shift is not without its background drama; Pugliese’s return follows the abrupt dismissal of former hosts Sid Seixeiro and Meredith Shaw. Their exit left audiences shocked, paving the way for this remarkable comeback. The leadership at Citytv is responsive to these changes, re-evaluing its programming to meet viewers' needs and expectations. Adams remarked, "The media is always shifting, and it’s my job and the leadership at Citytv to adapt. We wish both former hosts well, but we have decided to carry on with new energy and direction."

With the stage set for what promises to be vibrant mornings filled with connections, laughter, and engaging content, Pugliese's triumphant return heralds not just the revival of her hosting career, but also the rejuvenation of BT itself. Elements of community and collaboration will be key focus areas. "This was the one thing missing over the last two years. I finally felt ready and prepared and rested and recovered enough to get back to it," Pugliese shared, signaling her readiness for the challenges of morning television.

With effective teamwork, the BT cast is eager to give its dedicated viewers the optimism and joy they crave. Bolen's humor and genuine warmth mixed with Pugliese's infectious energy set the stage for mornings filled with laughter, insight, and community spirit. "Does this mean I have to call you boss too?" Bolen joked, highlighting their chemistry and mutual respect. To which Pugliese playfully replied, "It means I’m going to fire you," leading to shared laughter, reflecting the lighter side of what mornings will bring back to BT's loyal audience.
