Din Tai Fung Set To Open First Canadian Location In Vancouver

The renowned Taiwanese restaurant will debut its Vancouver outpost with a soft opening from April 24 to May 4, 2025.

After much anticipation, the first Canadian location of the globally renowned Taiwanese restaurant Din Tai Fung is set to open its doors in Vancouver. Din Tai Fung, known for its exquisite Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), will welcome guests during its soft opening from April 24 to May 4, 2025, ahead of the grand opening on May 5, 2025.

Founded in 1972, Din Tai Fung has grown to over 170 locations in 14 countries, making this Vancouver outpost a significant addition to its international presence. The restaurant's new Canadian identity, branded as DTF™, aims to blend Taiwanese culinary traditions with a modern Vancouver vibe.

Located at 1132 Alberni Street, the Vancouver restaurant spans more than 16,400 square feet and will seat over 300 guests. The interior design, crafted by the Rockwell Group, draws inspiration from Chinese Zen gardens, featuring elements such as a rock garden, custom lanterns, and a dumpling expo kitchen where diners can watch chefs handcraft the celebrated dumplings.

“Bringing our first restaurant to Canada is a deeply meaningful milestone for our family and our team,” said Albert Yang, Co-CEO of DTF Restaurant. “Vancouver feels like a natural home for the next chapter of our story.”

The restaurant's menu will feature iconic dishes, including the meticulously crafted Xiao Long Bao, spicy wontons in house sauce, and handmade noodles. Din Tai Fung is also introducing a unique dessert: chocolate-filled Xiao Long Bao, which is expected to be a crowd favorite.

Reservations for the soft opening have already begun, allowing eager food lovers to secure their spots for a limited menu that includes favorites like sesame noodles and specialty beverages inspired by Taiwanese heritage. However, guests should note that no walk-ins will be accepted during this period.

The grand opening on May 5 will mark a historic moment for Vancouver's culinary scene, making it the first city in Canada to experience the artistry and flavors of Din Tai Fung. The restaurant aims to celebrate its new location by enriching lives through food and cultural connection.

In addition to its culinary offerings, DTF™ has partnered with Yu Chung Ling, the son of the renowned calligrapher Yu Youren, to create original artwork for the restaurant. This collaboration not only honors the brand's roots but also integrates local artistic expression into the dining experience.

“Every detail of the space has been thoughtfully curated to create a dining experience that feels both rooted and refined,” Yang added. “It’s a space that honors our Taiwanese heritage while embracing the beauty and sophistication of Vancouver.”

The Vancouver location is expected to employ around 300 staff members, contributing to the local economy while bringing a taste of Taiwan to the city. Din Tai Fung's commitment to quality and consistency has earned it Michelin acclaim, with several locations recognized for their culinary excellence.

As the opening date approaches, excitement continues to build among food enthusiasts and locals alike. Din Tai Fung's Vancouver restaurant promises to be more than just a dining destination; it aims to foster community through its shared love of food.

For those eager to try Din Tai Fung's offerings, reservations for both the soft opening and grand opening can be made online. Guests are encouraged to mark their calendars and prepare for an unforgettable culinary experience.

In a city that values design, culture, and craftsmanship, Din Tai Fung is poised to make a significant impact on Vancouver's vibrant food scene. With its unique blend of tradition and modernity, the restaurant is set to become a beloved spot for dumpling lovers and culinary adventurers alike.

As the first Canadian location of Din Tai Fung prepares to open, it is clear that this restaurant is not just about food; it’s about creating connections and celebrating culture through the art of dining.
