Dilip Ghosh Ties Knot At 60 With Rinku Majumdar

The former West Bengal BJP president marries amid political intrigue and personal milestones.

In a significant personal milestone, senior BJP leader and former West Bengal party president Dilip Ghosh is set to marry on Friday at his residence in New Town, Kolkata. The 60-year-old parliamentarian, known for his outspoken political views and bachelor lifestyle, is entering matrimony for the first time.

A team of senior BJP leaders, including state President Sukanta Majumdar, BJP’s General Secretary (Organization) Amitabha Chakraborty, Bengal central observer Mangal Pandey, and National General Secretary Sunil Bansal, visited Ghosh's residence on the morning of April 18, 2025, to congratulate him and his mother. Majumdar expressed, “It is Ghosh’s personal affair. We have all come here to congratulate him for a prosperous future.”

The wedding ceremony will be held in the evening, following traditional Hindu rituals, and will be an intimate affair attended only by close friends and family. Preparations are underway at Ghosh's residence, where the marriage registration will take place. Ghosh’s elderly mother has arrived in Kolkata ahead of the wedding and is believed to have played a pivotal role in encouraging the union.

The bride, Rinku Majumdar, is also a BJP functionary, having been associated with the party since 2013. She has been known for her grassroots engagement within the BJP and is part of the Mahila Morcha in the Kolkata North Suburban Organisational District. Interestingly, Ghosh and Majumdar rarely interacted during his tenure as an MLA and MP, with their first conversation occurring just before the 2021 elections at Eco Park in Kolkata.

In an exclusive interview with News18 Bangla, Majumdar recalled how their relationship blossomed. By mid-September last year, she expressed her desire to settle down and thought of Ghosh as he was “the most eligible bachelor in my constituency.” She noted, “I had very clear conditions; I wanted someone who lived in New Town and who would accept my political career.”

Majumdar revealed that she decided to propose to Ghosh, citing his strength and honesty as qualities that attracted her. “I really liked these qualities and thought, why not propose to him?” she stated. However, Ghosh took three months to respond, reflecting on the proposal and discussing it with his mother before getting back to her.

Despite the political backdrop, their relationship remained mostly under the radar, partly due to the decorum their shared political space demanded. After Ghosh's election loss, Majumdar began visiting Eco Park more often, motivated by a desire to provide moral support. “When leaders are in power, they’re surrounded by people. When they’re not, that crowd disappears. I felt that was the right time to show up,” she reflected.

Ghosh, who has been a bachelor for 60 years, is now fulfilling a wish that his mother had long held for him. In a light-hearted moment during an interview, he remarked, “My mother always wanted me to get married. I’m fulfilling her wish. This will not affect my political commitments. I will remain just as active in public life.”

Senior BJP leaders' visit to Ghosh's residence on the morning of the wedding further underscores the importance of this personal milestone within the party. BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul also congratulated Ghosh, stating, “I congratulate Dilipda on his new journey. We expect a gala treat. I am especially indebted to Dilipda for guiding me in my political career.”

While there had been murmurs in political corridors about a possible shift in Ghosh’s personal life, he remained tight-lipped until the official confirmation emerged just a day before the wedding. Even close associates were reportedly unaware until the news broke.

As the day of the wedding approaches, speculation continues about whether a public reception will follow. However, those familiar with Ghosh suggest that such a move would be out of character for him. “He’s never been fond of extravagant displays, whether in politics or life,” remarked a party colleague.

Ghosh's tenure as state president was marked by significant electoral success, with the BJP winning 18 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls under his leadership. This achievement, coupled with his distinct political style, has made him a prominent figure in West Bengal politics.

As the couple prepares to embark on this new chapter, the political landscape watches closely, intrigued by how this personal development will interplay with Ghosh's public commitments. With his characteristic humor, Ghosh addressed the attention surrounding his marriage, quipping, “Why, can’t I get married? Is getting married a crime?”

In summary, Dilip Ghosh's marriage to Rinku Majumdar marks a significant personal and political moment, reflecting both the intertwining of personal lives and public personas in the world of politics. As they step into this new phase, it remains to be seen how their union will influence their roles within the BJP and the broader political landscape of West Bengal.
