Deyverson Joins Fortaleza In Key Transfer Deal

The striker leaves Atlético-MG for a three-year contract with Fortaleza, enhancing their offensive lineup.

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Fortaleza officially confirmed the signing of 33-year-old striker Deyverson from Atlético-MG, marking a significant move in Brazilian football.

The deal, which has been in the works for several weeks, sees Deyverson joining the Leão do Pici on a contract that will run until the end of 2027, with an option for an additional year. This transfer comes as Atlético-MG has been restructuring its roster, particularly after the arrival of new attacking talents.

Fortaleza is set to pay a fee close to R$ 8 million to Atlético-MG, which is more than 50% of the amount the club originally paid to acquire Deyverson from Cuiabá in 2024, around R$ 4.5 million. The player’s contract with Atlético was initially set to expire in December 2025, prompting the club to seek compensation for his early release.

According to reports from Itatiaia, the negotiations intensified after Atlético-MG rejected an initial offer from Fortaleza. However, the clubs eventually reached an agreement, allowing Deyverson to pursue a new opportunity where he is expected to receive a higher salary than his current deal at Atlético-MG.

In his time at Atlético, Deyverson played 34 matches, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. He joined the Galo in August 2024 and was part of a team that reached the finals of the Copa Libertadores, where he notably scored four goals in six appearances.

Upon confirming the transfer, Atlético-MG coach Cuca acknowledged the complexity of the situation, stating, "Deyverson received a proposal for three years of work. This is a complex situation. You have to think about everything... He has 34 years, a mother with cancer, and two pensions to pay. He is looking for his future and independence, even at 34, until 37." This statement highlights the personal circumstances influencing Deyverson’s decision to move.

Deyverson’s history in Brazilian football is notable. He previously played for Palmeiras, where he scored the title-winning goal in the 2018 Brazilian Championship against Vasco and also netted a crucial goal in the 2021 Copa Libertadores final against Flamengo. His journey has also seen him play in various leagues abroad, including stints in Spain and Portugal.

With the Brazilian Serie A season approaching, Deyverson’s arrival is seen as a critical addition to Fortaleza’s offensive lineup, providing alternatives alongside current forwards Lucero and Renato Kayzer. The team is looking to enhance its attacking options as they prepare for the upcoming season.

As the transfer process moves forward, Deyverson is expected to arrive in Fortaleza for medical examinations and to finalize the contract. This signing is anticipated to bolster Fortaleza’s ambitions in the league as they aim for a strong performance in the 2025 season.

In summary, Deyverson’s move from Atlético-MG to Fortaleza not only reflects a strategic acquisition for the Leão do Pici but also illustrates the personal and professional considerations that athletes navigate in their careers. With a rich history and proven scoring ability, Deyverson is poised to make an impact in his new environment.
