Dhanpal was deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu, regularly engaging in charitable acts and constructing facilities for the needy.
However, Dhanpal's youngest son, Dhrishtabuddhi, was a stark contrast to his father's virtuous nature. Engaged in sinful activities, including gambling and associating with prostitutes, Dhrishtabuddhi squandered his father's wealth. Frustrated by his son's behavior, Dhanpal eventually expelled him from their home.
After being cast out, Dhrishtabuddhi's life took a downward spiral. He resorted to theft and was arrested multiple times, but his father's reputation saved him from severe punishment. Eventually, he found himself wandering in despair until he arrived at the ashram of Maharishi Kaundinya during the sacred month of Vaishakha.
In his moment of despair, Dhrishtabuddhi sought guidance from the sage, expressing his regret over his past actions. The Maharishi advised him to observe the Mohini Ekadashi Vrat, assuring him that this fast could absolve him of his sins. Following the sage's counsel, Dhrishtabuddhi dedicated himself to the observance of the Vrat.
As a result of his sincere efforts, he was cleansed of his past misdeeds and ultimately attained salvation. Dhrishtabuddhi's transformation, culminating in his ascent to Vishnuloka on the back of Garuda, illustrates the profound impact of the Mohini Ekadashi Vrat.
Devotees are encouraged to perform specific rituals on this day to enhance their spiritual experience. These include bathing Lord Vishnu with Ganga water, offering yellow items such as turmeric and jaggery, and reciting sacred texts like the Vishnu Sahasranama.
