Depok Mayor Supian Suri has set forth new directives aimed at ensuring city officials are responsive to the public, emphasizing the importance of being accessible to residents. During his inaugural address at the Depok City Hall on February 20, 2025, he urged local officials to keep their phones on and regularly check social media for complaints from the community.
"Tolong dibuka baca betul, kalau memang di sana ada keluhan-keluhan masyarakat Kota Depok, tolong segera direspon," said Supian Suri, reminding the city officials of the need to engage proactively with residents. The Mayor's insistence on being responsive marks a shift toward greater accountability within the local government hierarchy.
Beyond simple availability, Suri has underscored the importance of addressing some of the most pressing issues facing the city, including flooding, traffic congestion—particularly on Jalan Sawangan—and waste management problems. "Banjir, kemacetan Jalan Sawangan, sampah akan menjadi Pekerjaan Rumah (PR) yang harus diselesaikan untuk kepentingan warga Depok," he highlighted, expressing his commitment to resolving these matters.
The directive also aims to create a culture where public complaints are seen as important feedback rather than nuisances. By encouraging city officials to be constantly connected and responsive, Suri is aiming to bridge the gap between government and citizens, fostering trust and engagement.
This new management style was welcomed by citizens, with many present during the Mayor’s address expressing hope for improvements. The participation of citizens reflects the desire for engaged leadership and greater transparency from the government.
The Mayor's call to action extends beyond mere words; it reflects his vision for the future of Depok, where every resident feels heard and valued. Addressing these key issues head-on is central to his plan, and it remains to be seen how effectively local officials will respond to these directives.
For Supian Suri, this is just the beginning. His administration is leaning on community engagement as a cornerstone of governance, ensuring officials remain vigilant about addressing residents' concerns. The next few months will be telling as the new mayor sets out to transform his vision for the city of Depok.
