The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a severe warning concerning dense fog for Dolj County, set to take effect on Friday, from 04:20 to 06:00. This meteorological phenomenon is expected to significantly reduce visibility below 200 meters and, in isolated areas, even under 50 meters. Depending on local conditions, the fog may also contribute to the formation of ice and frost on roads.
The specific localities affected by this warning include Calafat, Băilești, Dăbuleni, Poiana Mare, Moțăței, Segarcea, Sadova, Daneți, Călărași, Valea Stanciului, Ciupercenii Noi, Maglavit, Cetate, Ostroveni, Amărăștii de Jos, Celaru, Mârșani, Galicea Mare, Desa, Bistreț, Bârca, Unirea, Calopăr, Gighera, Rast, Bechet, Bratovoești, Cerăt, Castranova, Dioști, Afumați, Goicea, Drănic, Giurgița, Lipovu, Urzicuța, Gângiova, Piscu Vechi, Dobrești, Giubega, Apele Vii, Rojiște, Ghidici, Negoi, Seaca de Câmp, Dobrotești, Cioroiași, Perișor, Siliștea Crucii, Măceșu de Sus, Întorsura, Catane, Galiciuica, Măceșu de Jos, Cârna, Radovan, and Izvoare.
On the morning of Friday, heavy fog has also impacted traffic across several other counties, including Giurgiu, Olt, and Teleorman. Reports indicate no closures on national roads or motorways due to accidents or adverse weather; nevertheless, visibility remains severely hampered, affecting multiple routes. This potentially hazardous situation encourages caution among drivers, as local conditions could lead to ice or frost forming on road surfaces.
According to the traffic monitoring unit from the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, as of 07:00 on Friday, no national roads or highways were reported blocked due to accidents or weather-related issues. Nonetheless, fog persists, causing visibility challenges, with some areas experiencing dips below the 200-meter threshold and isolated spots under 50 meters.
While traffic flows on major thoroughfares around the Capital, including the A0, A1, A2, and A3 motorways, mostly remain clear and dry, there are reports of slight congestion heading toward Bucharest from the A1 motorway, where vehicles are lined up from kilometer 12. Traffic volumes on the National Ring Road are reportedly up, especially around Bragadiru, Domnești, Chiajna, and Pantelimon, within Ilfov County.
For those traveling under such conditions, authorities are strongly advising vehicle operators to adapt their speed to the road conditions and traffic levels, maintain safe distances between vehicles, particularly on slippery or damp roads, avoid risky overtaking maneuvers when visibility is low, and utilize seatbelts and safety restraints for all passengers. A proactive and responsible driving demeanor is imperative during these times.
Drivers and commuters are urged to stay informed and exercise caution as they navigate through the affected areas this Friday morning.
